Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat is scheduled to address a large audience of Gen Z and Gen Alpha students in Mumbai on Wednesday. The high-profile meeting is scheduled at NMACC as the start of the 15th Annual Championship Conference organised by India's International Movement to Unite Nations (IIMUN). It will also have over 2,000 high-achieving students from all over the country from more than 100 cities.
The gathering comes at a time of heightened national dialogue over youth engagement, education policy and civic leadership. The theme of the opening ceremony will be ‘The Role of Youth in Uniting the World, the Indian Way’. On the basis of this platform, the RSS chief will engage with Gen Alpha (people born between 2010 and 2024) and Gen Z (people born between 1997 and 2012), to discuss how indigenous values and a cultural basis and modern world leadership can be used in the context of global leadership to solve complex social problems. Organizers say that this conference is a platform for younger generations to voice their views on local, national and international problems.
The IIMUN, established by Rishabh Shah in 2011, is a youth-driven public affairs platform to promote diplomatic skills and critical thinking and a comprehensive understanding of world governance from the perspective of Indian youth. The movement has grown exponentially in the past 10 years with hundreds of conferences in India and the world and millions of students. The mentorship program of various ideological and national leaders in its mentorship program aims at bridging the gap between old school governance ideas and contemporary youth aspirations.
The time of this youth conclave is also connected to wider administrative and political discussions within India. The past couple of weeks have witnessed widespread student mobilization and public demonstrations around transparency of competitive exams and administrative accountability, and governance across India. That has been evidenced by large-scale youth-led protests in the capital and high-level political shifts (with the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan following protests led by groups like the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) at Jantar Mantar) which have thrust youth activism into the news.
Under these circumstances the NMACC’s speech from Mohan Bhagwat, which offers both ideological mentorship and intergenerational dialogue, is particularly significant. In such a way that teenagers can channel their energy into constructive debate, community leadership and structured problem-solving, the conference will help to transform young people’s passion for the future into long-term capacity building for the country.
