The 25-year-old religious preacher Sadhvi Prem Baisa’s sudden death has turned from a medical tragedy into a high-stakes investigation. Declared “brought dead” at a private hospital in Jodhpur Wednesday evening, her death has prompted protests from followers and a call for a high-level probe by political leaders including Hanuman Beniwal.
The Fatal Fever and a Mysterious Injection
Her father, Brahm Nath, noted Prem Baisa had been experiencing a fever at her Boranada ashram. A local compounder was allegedly summoned to administer an injection but within five minutes of the treatment, her condition deteriorated sharply. She was taken to the hospital by 6 PM but died there on arrival.
Suspicion grew when her family initially refused an ambulance and a post-mortem; they decided to transport the body back to the ashram. Only after police intervened was the body taken to MDM Hospital for a medical board to try to figure out whether the death was the result of a medical reaction or something more sinister.
The ‘Agni Pariksha’ Note from Beyond the Grave
The most chilling of developments took place at 9:28 PM, almost four hours after she was declared dead. A long post on her official Instagram account appeared to read as a kind of last testament. Her message was about her commitment to Sanatan Dharma and her despair over a denied "Agni Pariksha" (trial by fire).
"I wrote letters to Adi Guru Shankaracharya and many great saints… requesting a trial by fire, but what did nature approve? I am bidding farewell to this world forever… I will surely receive justice after my death," the post said.
Investigators are now trying to find out if the post was scheduled in advance or if someone else with access to her account posted it.
A Victim of ‘Digital Character Assassination’?
Set against the backdrop of this tragedy is a six-month-old controversy over a doctored video. A video of Sadhvi embracing a man went viral in July 2025. Though she said the video was a particularly moving moment with her father in the wake of her mother’s death, she endured intense online bullying and blackmail.
The Blackmail: Prem Baisa also had lodged an FIR saying that ex-staff were demanding ₹20 lakh to stop the circulation of the edited footage.
Community Backlash: Followers say the sustained ridicule from social media “trolls” and the suspicion from her own community drove the young preacher over the edge.
The Current Status of the Investigation
Om Prakash, the police commissioner, has confirmed that the compounder who administered the injection is detained for investigation. The ashram has been sealed and medical supplies used in her treatment have been confiscated. Rajasthan mourns the loss of the “pure soul” lost to cruel society, but post-mortem findings remain to determine if this tragic death really came as a result of a tragic accident or was part of a conspiracy.
