In a symbolic act of political support and personal faith, a supporter of senior Congress leader and Karnataka minister Satish Jarkiholi offered special prayers at the renowned Ajmer Sharif Dargah in Rajasthan, praying for him to become the Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka.
Ajaruddin Sheikhji, a devotee from Sadalaga in Nippani taluk of Belagavi district, went to the shrine of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti (Gharib Nawaz) and offered a ceremonial chadar to bless Jarkiholi for the Deputy Chief Minister posting.
With political speculation in mind, the gesture of faith is made
The special prayers have come at a time when discussions of political leadership and cabinet responsibilities in Karnataka are still to be held. There has been speculation about key leadership roles in the state government, but no announcement has been made about a change in the Deputy Chief Minister's position.
Supporters of Satish Jarkiholi have, however, still expressed their confidence in him and his administrative experience.
Senior Congress Leader
Satish Jarkiholi is one of the senior-most Congress leaders from North Karnataka and is now a minister in the Karnataka government. He also holds the responsibility of Belagavi district in-charge minister and plays a major role in the administration and development of the region.
Jarkiholi remains one of the most influential political figures in the state because of his grassroots connect and long political career.
Chadar offered at Ajmer Sharif
As part of the religious offering, the supporter presented a chadar at the Ajmer Sharif Dargah, one of India’s most revered Sufi shrines. People from all over the country come to the shrine to pray for peace, prosperity, and the fulfillment of their wishes.
The act was a personal act of faith and hope that Satish Jarkiholi would be given more responsibilities in the Karnataka government.
Political Significance
Religious prayers and expressions of support are not unusual in Indian politics, particularly during political developments or cabinet changes. Such gestures are far more representative of party workers and supporters’ wishes and not official political decisions.
As of now, the Karnataka government has not made any announcement regarding changes in the Deputy Chief Minister's post, and the prayers are just a symbolic gesture of support from one of Jarkiholi's admirers.
