A brutal episode of violence on Raja Rani Express, in Mandya district of Karnataka, where a squabble over seats developed into a stabbing attack that left two passengers on the train suffering injuries.
The incident was on the Raja Rani Express train from Mysuru to Bengaluru. It is reported by a lot of people that some of the members of the train group engaged in an argument with each other over a seat in the train coach.
These accused persons were reported to have been travelling to Bengaluru along with their family members. Subhan Qureshi, Shoaib and Wasim have been identified. On the way, an altercation reportedly broke out between the accused and others on the way over seats.
Passenger Questioned the Fight
Conflict intensified internally, in the compartment, and a bystander named Shivakumar, a Tumakuru resident, reportedly intervened and asked the passengers why they were being disruptive to others on the train. It is said that the accused got angry and attacked him when he got this. Witnesses said Subhan Qureshi initially stabbed Shivakumar with a knife during the tussle. Several moments later, another accused, identified as Shoaib, allegedly stabbed him again and caused severe injuries.
Emergency Chain Pulled
Trying to save his life and alert the authorities, Shivakumar reportedly pulled the emergency chain near Maddur to stop the train. The accused also allegedly attempted to exit the scene immediately after the train stalled. But a gatekeeper, who was named Kumar, tried to intervene to stop them and to assist in arresting the suspects. Kumar was stabbed in the scuffle and also injured by the accused, according to the investigation.
Public Catches the Accused
The violent incident terrified passengers, but soon, members of society formed and managed to overcome the accused. According to eyewitnesses, furious passengers attacked the accused before finally handing them over to the police. The suspects were taken into custody, and the authorities responded with investigations.
Victims Undergoing Treatment
The injured victims, Shivakumar and Kumar, were taken to Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS) hospital for treatment. According to hospital sources, both sustained knife injuries and are being treated.
Police Investigation Underway
Railway police have registered a case, and they said they have opened an investigation. Officials are reviewing witness statements and gathering evidence from the train coach to figure out the precise sequence of events.
"In this manner, the horrific attack once again raises questions about the safety of train passengers and increases the risk of violent confrontations on public transport systems." Those who respond as much as possible, after such incidents, will be called back up and re-examined.
All passengers on the train described the incident as terrifying, some worried how a simple seat dispute within minutes, led to what it could easily have been reduced to a life-threatening attack.
