The Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar), led by some prominent politicians, has formally launched the first salvo ahead of the upcoming elections as it is putting forward its first list of twenty candidates for the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections. The candidate selection was made and approved in a high-level executive meeting of the party’s Parliamentary Board at the party’s headquarters in Amritsar for the first time as part of a strategy to win over key regional constituencies well ahead of polling day.
Gurjant Singh Kattu, the Parliamentary Board Secretary, also announced today that the party has chosen its working president Iman Singh Mann from the politically important Sri Fatehgarh Sahib Assembly constituency. This recognition is the party’s strong step to consolidate its base of voters and also hold a high profile as a political leader in key regions. The first list also has a number of great candidates who are strategically distributed across districts in the state - Mahinderpal Singh in Patiala Rural, Kuldeep Singh Bhagowal in Rupnagar, Kushalpal Singh Mann in Kharar seat, Gurnam Singh Singriwal in Garhshankar, Gurnaib Singh Rampura in Sangrur, Baldev Singh Gagra in Nihal Singh Wala, Harjinder Singh Jakhu in Bhadaur and Parminder Singh Balianwali in Maur and several other candidates.
Kattu said this early announcement is only the beginning of the party's electoral strategy and that leadership is reviewing credentials and local dynamics of the other 117 Assembly constituencies. There are plans for further lists of candidates in the near future as the organization gears up for elections. Punjab, with 117 Assembly constituencies, is scheduled to go to polls early next year and the political arena is expected to be a hot one with the Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) in the lead and political analysts expect the political environment in the state to be very heated as regional parties compete for the vote on different socio-economic and cultural issues.
