Taking the matter under serious suspicion, the authorities registered a suo-motu case and commenced a police investigation.

The threat appeared in response to an Instagram account called Team Kalki as a comment on it. It was allegedly posted by a person named Shankar in response to a post related to Hindutva group member Suhas Shetty. The comment reportedly said: “Support me bro, I will carry out a bomb blast near Ullal Masjid.” It stirred the public opinion widely and frightened people everywhere once the remark became known.

Aware that this could be serious, Ullal Police filed a suo-motu case via Mangaluru Police Commissioner Sudhir Reddy. An FIR was filed on the spot and a specialized squad was established to trace and arrest the accused. Police officials said such threats on social media are dangerous and a major challenge to law and order.

In the end, however, Ullal and Mangaluru precautions took place to avoid any other such undesirable situation. The safety measures that were applied to the vicinity of the masjid and its surroundings were increased, the authorities said.
