According to the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC), several parts of the state are expected to receive rainfall in the next 6 days, from 4 June to 10 June. Rain is expected to fall over Coastal Karnataka, North Interior Karnataka, South Interior Karnataka, and the Malnad region.

Due to the weather, authorities have issued an Orange Alert for coastal areas of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada and parts of North Interior Karnataka. A Yellow Alert is also issued for inland districts, warning residents of moderate rainfall and localised disruption in the weather.

Heavy Rain Likely In Coastal Karnataka

The coastal belt of Karnataka, in particular, will experience a dramatic increase in rainfall activity. On June 4, the region is expected to experience widespread light to moderate rainfall. But meteorologists predict a strong intensification from June 5 onwards.

From June 5 to June 10, coastal Karnataka will experience heavy rainfall, strong winds, and occasional thunderstorms in some areas. Residents living in the low-lying areas should be careful, as waterlogging and localised flooding are likely to occur, the forecast said.

North Interior Karnataka to Receive Moderate to Heavy Rain

North Interior Karnataka districts are likely to receive scattered light to moderate rainfall through June 4. Weather models indicate that rainfall activity will become more widespread between June 5 and June 10.

Some of the regions may get moderate to heavy showers during this period, providing relief from the recent dry weather. Agricultural communities will benefit from the onset of monsoon rains to prepare for sowing in the kharif season.

South Interior Karnataka and Malnad Region

South Interior Karnataka is also expected to experience widespread light to moderate rainfall throughout the forecast period. The Malnad districts, which have large hills and dense forests, are likely to experience constant rainfall until at least June 9.

The rainfall would replenish reservoirs, increase groundwater levels, and support agricultural activities in the area. But in hilly areas, authorities are advising residents to be on the lookout for landslides and road disruption because of the continuous rain.

Monsoon Season Gains Momentum

The Southwest Monsoon in Kerala is a significant weather phenomenon that typically signals the onset of the rainy season in Kerala and other parts of India. As the monsoon moves inland, rainfall activity will be on the rise in the state over the next few days.

Weather officials are monitoring the situation and have advised citizens to keep an eye on local forecasts and alerts, particularly in areas under Orange Alert, where heavy rainfall could impact daily life and transportation.
