SpiceJet Delhi-Pune Flight Delayed Nearly 5 Hours After Technical Glitch, Passengers Report Breathing Trouble

More than 100 passengers travelling from Delhi to Pune on a SpiceJet flight were left frustrated and distressed after a technical issue forced it to be delayed for almost five hours. The flight was originally scheduled to leave Delhi at 4:55 p.m. but the departure time was repeatedly pushed back and passengers said repeated notifications were sent to them of delays. The passengers said they were not sure why the flight was delayed and the lack of information about the cause made them frustrated as they waited at the airport for several hours.

The situation became worse when passengers in the aircraft began complaining about the cabin conditions. Some passengers said the temperature inside the plane had risen considerably, making it uncomfortable and difficult for some people to breathe. The complaints caused a lot of confusion and tension among those on board.

Passengers also claimed the cabin crew and pilot did not respond to their concerns properly. Some members of the crew, they said, asked passengers to stay seated when they expressed their breathing problems. The situation escalated before it became clear that the aircraft was actually not functioning.

The delay meant that passengers had to wait several hours to board the plane. The boarding finally started at 9:40 pm, almost five hours after the flight’s departure time. The plane took off around 10 pm and arrived in Pune at 12:10 am on Friday.

Passengers also expressed frustration at the arrangements for the disruption, as well as the inconvenience of the disruption of their flight to be made for the flight to be delayed. They were not given food or refreshments because of the delay, and many reported being refused food or refreshments when they were waiting for the flight to leave. Passengers said the airline claimed that adverse weather conditions were the reason for the delay, but they questioned why no food or refreshments were offered during the extended wait.

Some passengers said they were offered a full refund if they chose to cancel their journey. But passengers who did stay on board were not given the meal vouchers they were promised during the long disruption.

The incident has sparked anger among passengers, with several demanding action against the airline. They have questioned how a flight could remain delayed for hours while passengers were reportedly experiencing uncomfortable cabin conditions. Concerns have also been raised about communication between the airline and passengers during technical disruptions.

The incident comes amid traveller concerns with flight delays and operational problems. Passengers say stronger monitoring is needed when airlines face repeated delays, especially when technical problems are involved. Some have also called on aviation authorities to examine whether passenger rights and safety procedures were properly followed during the episode.

Passengers have also pointed out that the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and the Ministry of Civil Aviation are also called out by passengers who want more accountability. Airlines need to be given greater scrutiny, travellers say, when passengers are left waiting for long periods without information or basic facilities.

Technical problems can occur in aviation and they can cause airlines to delay or ground an aircraft for a few hours to assess the issue. They do so for passenger safety. But passengers say airlines need to remain in communication and provide appropriate assistance when things go wrong for several hours.

For those travelling from Delhi to Pune, what would be a regular evening journey turned into a long and uncomfortable one. The allegations of rising cabin temperature, breathing problems, repeated flight delays and a lack of refreshments have added to the mounting concern over how it was handled.

The incident also underscores the need for transparent communication during flight disruptions. Passengers are willing to put up with delays when they understand that safety checks are necessary, but uncertainty and lack of assistance can quickly lead to frustration.

The exact cause of the technical issue and the airline's response to the passengers' allegations would need to be established through an official investigation. But until then, the incident serves as a reminder of how airlines cope with technical disruptions while ensuring passengers are safe and well cared for during long delays.
