SG 5111 and SG 5105 were affected and were flights from Delhi to Dubai. The disruption left passengers waiting for updates on when they would finally be able to travel.

Two Dubai-Bound Flights Hit by Long Delays

According to reports, Flight SG 5111 was originally scheduled to leave Delhi at 7:45 am on Monday, September 14. It was then postponed to later on Monday and then to 9 am on Tuesday, September 15. At the time of reporting, the flight had not left Delhi at 7:45 am. NDTV also reported that flight-tracking information showed Flight SG 5111 as cancelled.

The second affected flight, SG 5105, was due to leave the airport at 6:45 pm on Monday. The final departure was pushed back to around noon on Tuesday, so the passengers had to wait around 17 hours, and the Dubai services were disrupted for a total of 24 hours.

Passengers demand food, accommodation and answers.

The uncertainty caused passengers to stage sit-in protests at the airport. Travelers were looking for a clear indication of when departure times would be, along with food and accommodation during the long wait.

Videos from the airport showed passengers sitting on the terminal floor waiting for information. Airport authorities also offered stranded travelers food, water, and a place to rest.

Passengers were angry about the lack of SpiceJet representatives to respond to their complaints. Frustration grew with the repeated schedule changes that left travellers unsure when their flights would be in service.

SpiceJet Cites Operational Reasons

SpiceJet said the disruption was due to operational reasons following the grounding of an aircraft. It apologised to affected passengers and said it was working to arrange alternate flights.

In its statement, the airline said alternate arrangements were being made to accommodate the affected passengers and that it was trying to minimize the inconvenience.

SpiceJet’s operational and financial situation is at the heart of the concern, and regulators and the government are closely following the airline’s business at the moment.
