Popular actor-turned-politician Vijay has officially taken charge as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, marking a historic transition from cinema superstar to political leader. Known for commanding massive salaries in the film industry, Vijay has now stepped into public service after years of dominating the Tamil film world.
Vijay took oath as Chief Minister during a grand ceremony held on May 10 in Chennai. His political rise and massive election victory have become one of the most discussed developments in Indian politics and cinema.
Vijay’s Salary as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister
As Chief Minister, Vijay will now receive a significantly lower salary compared to his earnings in films.
According to official figures, the basic monthly salary of the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister is around ₹2,05,000. When various allowances and benefits are included, Vijay’s total monthly compensation is estimated to reach approximately ₹2,85,000.
This means the actor-turned-politician’s annual earnings as Chief Minister will be around ₹34.2 lakh.
The figure is considerably lower than the hundreds of crores Vijay reportedly earned for each movie during his peak acting career. However, political observers note that comparing film remuneration with a constitutional office is not appropriate because the role of a Chief Minister comes with governance responsibilities, administrative authority, and public accountability rather than commercial earnings.
Official Residence and Government Facilities
As part of his position, Vijay will be entitled to a fully furnished government bungalow in one of Chennai’s prestigious localities. The residence will reportedly include facilities for a camp office, staff quarters, and official meetings.
However, it remains unclear whether Vijay will permanently shift to the official residence since he already owns a private home in Chennai.
The Tamil Nadu government will also provide him with bulletproof SUVs and a full convoy security arrangement. Official travel expenses by air, rail, or road for government duties will be completely covered by the state.
Accommodation and logistical arrangements during official tours will also be managed by the government.
