From June 15 to June 19, the programme will be held in Chennai to select eligible candidates from all over the state. The training is in line with the government’s plan to develop skills and create job opportunities through the work of the industry and the private sector.

The Tamil Nadu government has also introduced several vocational and entrepreneurship-oriented training programmes in areas like drone operation, bakery product manufacturing, home appliance servicing, and digital content creation. The gold and jewellery appraiser course would be useful for people who want to work in banking, finance, and jewellery-related fields.

The five-day training programme will be held from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm at the Entrepreneurship Development and Innovation Institute in Chennai. The participants will get detailed training on precious metal valuation and jewellery assessment.

Experts will give instructions on the purity and quality of precious metals (gold and silver) and how to measure and check them. The students will learn about carat measurement techniques, acid testing procedures, weight calculation procedures, board rates, hallmark certification standards, and methods of detecting fake or counterfeit jewellery. Gold loan calculations, gold valuation processes, and the classification of different types of gold ornaments will be the focus of the programme.

Besides technical training, participants will be provided with advice on career opportunities in the sector. The programme will also provide information about job opportunities for jewellery appraisers in public sector banks, cooperatives, private financial institutions, and jewellery companies, officials said. The programme will also provide insights into application procedures and job opportunities for goldsmiths.

The training will also cover government-backed entrepreneurship schemes such as central and state government loan programmes, subsidies, and financial assistance available for those who wish to start their own businesses in the jewellery and appraisal sector.

The program is open to both entrepreneurs and aspiring professionals who are men, women, transgender persons, and other eligible applicants aged 18 years and above and would be eligible for the programme. Applicants must have completed at least Class 10 to be eligible.

For participants travelling from outside Chennai, low-cost accommodation will be available. All eligible candidates applying for accommodation can apply for the facility while they are in the programme.

Participants will receive a government-recognised certificate after successful completion of the training, and they will be able to get jobs in the banking and jewellery industries.

Candidates must register for the programme through the official EDII website. The institute can be contacted for any additional information and reservations through the mobile numbers 9360221280 or 8668100181 during working hours from Monday to Friday between 10:00 am and 5:00 pm.

The Entrepreneurship Development and Innovation Institute is located at EDII Office Road, SIDCO Industrial Estate, Ekkattuthangal, Guindy, Chennai – 600032.

With growing demand for qualified jewellery appraisers in banks and financial institutions, the programme should offer career opportunities for participants and contribute to Tamil Nadu's wider skill development and employment programs.
