Kalaburagi is a historic place in Karnataka. It has recently come into the spotlight. Not because of the development, but because of the viral video that has been exposed inside the Kalaburagi central jail. The place which should have been in strict rules and regulations, has now been seen as a luxurious resort for the prisoners there.
This recent controversy has been started all because of the viral video in which the prisoners are living a “Hi-Fi” life inside. The video reveals the prisoners enjoying a club or resort alike in the prison.
Having all these in mind, according to the norms of the jail, the authoritarians are definitely being irresponsible in managing the prisoners. A group of them have been smoking cigarettes, applying branded oils and most importantly playing gambling. The whole ambience created is being very relaxed and luxurious. These videos have quickly spread among the viewers.
The most asked question among the public is, How are the prohibited items entering the jail under tight security? Is Smuggling happening in the jail? Such activities are definitely not normal in the Central Jail of Kalaburagi. What are the authoritarians doing?
The Chief Superintendent, Dr. Anita argues that such violations cannot be done without the knowledge of those who were in charge. The controversy worsened when R. D. Patil, ex-prisoner, released a video alleging that Dr. Anita had demanded ₹10 lakh Bribe.
But, such incidents have been taken place before in the Kalaburagi Central Jail. This is definitely more than just a controversy. It is a serious issue that is rising in the Indian system. If these prisoners are leading a luxurious life inside, what message are they trying to convey for the society? Prisoners are meant to behave correctly, properly and with rules and restrictions. But when they are turning the jail into the party hubs, what is the purpose of putting them in the prison for the crimes that they have committed.
We should absolutely be thankful to technology and social media for being able to expose illegal activities and to share it across the nation. At least now the system and authorities must be a little serious about what is happening inside the jail and the illegal activities happening there.
