Kamalakar Bhat, who used to be known for his high-profile astrological predictions, political connections and immense wealth, is currently getting hit hard with a drastic fall. He is already embroiled in a high-profile investigation of murder, yet faced a serious legal problem when a fresh case with POCSO Act registration was opened against him.
An astrologer having been a beneficiary of powerful political chieftains' patronage and making an impressive sum of money for one person, and suddenly it is proving that it will be near impossible to have the security to put him free after the many layers of supposed crime come to light.
New Allegations: The POCSO Case
As Bhat awaited a reprieve in his legal battles, another complaint was lodged at the Siddapur Police Station in Uttara Kannada district. The complaint alleges that Bhat sexually harassed a minor girl by touching her inappropriately. Police sources said what happened was inside Tunga Nagar area of Shivamogga district.
The charge of this new allegation has shaken the public, further damaging the good name of the man who used to tell everybody exactly what their fate should be. The legal obstacles to his bail now are much longer indeed as you take into account a POCSO case which is still underway.
The Vasant Naik Murder Investigation
Bhat’s current imprisonment is mainly based on his alleged involvement in the Vasant Naik murder case. While in police custody, he was extensively interrogated and questioned. During the questioning period, he maintained his innocence in this case for the physical act of murder. Bhat placed a great deal of his defense on his whereabouts during the crime. He apparently questioned investigators and said that he was not at the scene "I was elsewhere at the time.
Leave my mobile location data for your verification." Yes, and to be more specific: Technical surveillance and location tracking did ultimately confirm that Bhat was in Siddapur and not present at the actual location of the (Avaraguppa) murder at the time of the crime. And that gave him a momentary hope of a possible release or a decrease in charges for direct participation, but that hope dimmed.
A Web of Controversy
Kamalakar Bhat’s downfall is frequently attributed to his alleged connection to a woman named Suchitra who many believe drove him on a life of crime and a life of imprisonment. Even though he has previously asserted that he was a circumstantial victim of the murder case, the overwhelming and extensive volume of evidence as well as the gravity of the new POCSO charges indicate a systematic pattern of misconduct.
Current Legal Status
- Murder Case: Investigation continues into his role as a conspirator or facilitator.
- POCSO Case: Formal FIR recorded at Siddapur; Shivamogga police to liaise on jurisdictional conditions.
- Custody: He is still locked up and legal experts say these POCSO charges will make it a uphill slog to secure bail.
Now, a life of lavish luxury and power had to be confined to prison cell. The “celebrity astrologer” is on a long and arduous journey through the Indian judicial system while the police piece together the evidence for both the murder and the harassment cases.
