A tragic road accident in Udupi claimed the life of a woman after a scooter lost control and crashed into a roadside compound wall near Nittur.
The deceased has been identified as 50-year-old Helen Sons, a resident of Katapady. She was travelling on the scooter with her son when the accident occurred.
According to reports, the scooter was being ridden by her son Sherwin when he allegedly lost control of the vehicle. The scooter then rammed into a compound wall on the side of the road near Nittur in Udupi.
The impact of the crash was severe, causing serious injuries to both the rider and the pillion passenger. Helen Sons, who was seated behind, suffered critical injuries due to the force of the collision. Local residents rushed to help and the injured were immediately taken to a nearby hospital. However, Helen Sons died on the way while being transported for treatment.
Her son Sherwin sustained serious injuries and has been admitted to a private hospital where he is currently undergoing treatment. CCTV footage of the accident has reportedly surfaced, showing the scooter losing control before crashing into the compound wall.
The case falls under the jurisdiction of the Udupi Town Police, who have registered a case and begun an investigation into the incident. Authorities are reviewing the CCTV footage and examining the circumstances that led to the crash.
