The young girl in Uttar Pradesh who had already safely crossed a busy road, noticed her friend was too scared to follow. She turned back as a result of a fatal accident caught on a nearby CCTV camera.
What happened: Selfless Turn Back
Video from the heart-wrenching incident has gone viral on social media showing two young girls standing on the edge of a road in a residential area of Uttar Pradesh. The eldest of the two a seven-year-old girl made it through traffic and moved across the road. But when she looked back she saw that her younger friend was frozen in fear, unable to move her way on the road when traffic was coming.
Without hesitation, the seven-year-old ran back across the asphalt straight to her friend. She is seen gently taking the younger girl’s hand and giving her encouragement and starting to lead her across the street. It was at this point that a speeding motorcycle, apparently going well above the residential limit, cut through the lane.

The Impact and Aftermath
The motorcycle crashed into both children with such force, witnesses said the girl who had come back to help was thrown several feet into the air. She died on the spot of catastrophic head injuries. Her younger friend, whom she was trying to save, survived multiple fractures and internal injuries. She was immediately rushed to a nearby government hospital, where she is in critical condition.
In the CCTV footage, the bike rider lost balance and fell but managed to escape from the scene before locals could take action. The rider’s reckless speed in an area where children were clearly visible, in turn, stirred up anger about road safety enforcement in the state.
A Community in Mourning
The loss of the young girl is leaving the neighborhood in a state of shock. “She was a bright, helpful child. For her to lose her life because she wanted to make sure her friend was safe is something no parent should have to live through,” one person said.
The Uttar Pradesh Police filed a case against the unknown rider for rash driving and causing death by negligence. Police are also tracing the registration number of the vehicle in the CCTV images to catch the culprit. The police will investigate the accident and prosecute the driver in the case.
