As the heat building up and Tamil Nadu gets closer to elections, the actor-turned-politician Vijay, who is also known as "Thalapathy," has been able to push his party in the direction of an election. His party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), is now announcing candidates for different parts of the state, which indicates a strong strategy for it in the elections coming up on the 23rd of this month.
Moreover, popular actress Vani Bhojan has also thrown her energy behind Vijay and his political party. Speaking at an informal function where Vijay performed, Vani expressed her love for Vijay and her thanks for him switching from cinema to politics.
She said on Monday: “I’m so enamored of Vijay. I wish I could be working with Vijay in a show and a movie. I always wanted to share that kind of journey with Vijay as the ultimate hero. But the reality that he does not act anymore and we need him in some kind of party did get in the way. So far, I am so proud of this and the party.”
Vijay’s bold move from films to politics has been a big talking point both in the entertainment and political sides of things. TVK is trying to be seen as a new alternative to Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, which have usually been influential groups involved in Tamil Nadu politics.
When asked whether she will formally join TVK, Vani Bhojan doesn’t yet intend to do so— the door was left open, of course. “I’m sure that if I have a chance, I will definitely join Vijay’s party. In this election, my vote can be for Vijay no matter who is here.”
Her comments have spread fast on social media to fans and political experts alike. Culturally, much of Tamil Nadu sees celebrity endorsements as meaningful, like in other states.
Vani Bhojan is an upcoming actress to watch and has rapidly evolved into one of the rising stars in the recent Tamil film industry. Her support is only one of many other filmmakers that are attracted to Vijay’s political project.
As the political campaign starts, all eyes are upon TVK to produce at least relatively good performances early in its first electoral campaign by putting up good numbers when it comes to Vijay's fans as it concerns the voters. With famous people such as Vani Bhojan supporting them, it appears to be increasingly visible and popular among voters.
