Vijay’s TVK Rally Today in Puducherry: QR Code Entry, 5,000 Cap & Timing Details Post-Karur Tragedy

Actor-turned-politician Vijay, the president of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), is set to hold his first major public meeting today, December 9, 2025, in Puducherry. This highly anticipated event, dubbed the 'Puducherry Makkal Santhippu Needhi Payanam' (Puducherry people's justice march), marks the party’s public resumption of political activities exactly two months after the tragic Karur stampede on September 27 that claimed 41 lives. The rally, initially planned for Tamil Nadu, was shifted to the Union Territory and is proceeding under extremely strict security and crowd control measures mandated by the Puducherry Police.

Strict Security and Entry Protocols

To prevent a recurrence of the crowd surge tragedy witnessed in Karur, the Puducherry Police have imposed stringent conditions, focusing on public safety and disciplined attendance. The key measure is the implementation of a QR code-only entry system to ensure strict crowd management and accountability. The event has been explicitly limited to a public meeting and permission for a pre-planned roadshow was denied.

  • Venue and Timing: The meeting is scheduled at the Uppalam Expo Ground in Puducherry. Vijay is expected to address the gathering between 10:30 AM and 12:30 PM today, December 9, 2025.
  • Capped Attendance: The police have strictly capped the total attendance at 5,000 individuals only.
  • QR Code Entry: Entry will be permitted only to individuals possessing a valid QR-coded entry pass issued by the TVK party unit. Persons without this pass will be denied entry.
  • Local Residents Only: The event is meant exclusively for residents of the Union Territory of Puducherry. Residents from neighbouring Tamil Nadu districts have been requested not to travel to the venue to avoid inconvenience and overcrowding.
  • Exclusion Advisory: Children, pregnant women, elderly persons, and individuals with health issues have been strongly advised by the police and the party not to attend the meeting.
  • No Roadshow: Permission for a roadshow was denied. The event is strictly limited to a static public meeting.

A Crucial Test for TVK's Organisational Strength

The Puducherry meeting is a critical moment for the TVK, serving as the first public test of its organizational capacity and discipline following the Karur tragedy. Party sources have indicated that Vijay will speak from his specially arranged campaign vehicle instead of a traditional stage. The party headquarters has issued a detailed code of conduct to its cadres, emphasising the paramount importance of safety and discipline, and warning against any form of unruly behaviour, celebratory activities, or unauthorized banners.

Vijay is expected to launch his political outreach for Puducherry, signaling the party's intent to contest the upcoming Assembly elections in the Union Territory, particularly after alliance talks with the AINRC reportedly failed. The successful execution of this high-security, controlled event is vital for TVK to reassure the public and authorities of its commitment to safety as it transitions from a fan-based movement to a recognized political force.
