Seven people, including a village head, have been arrested for allegedly beating a 35-year-old man to death and injuring another person on suspicion of goat theft in Jharkhand’s Khunti district, police said on Wednesday.
The incident happened late Sunday in Bindadiri village. It falls under the jurisdiction of Murhu police station. Police claimed that the victim was attacked by a group of villagers after suspicion was raised that he was involved in the theft of a goat.
One other person was hurt in the attack, police said. Police are investigating the circumstances of the incident and trying to determine what happened in the past few hours and why there was violence, they said.
The village head is among those arrested, reflecting the seriousness authorities have taken the case. There is no word yet on what the specific roles of each of the accused were, and police are notifying us of what they did, said the police.
