The Spark: From Agreement to Unrest

The conflict originated near the Kalandari Mosque in the bus stand area of Chomu. According to police reports, a meeting was held on Thursday evening between the local administration and community members regarding the removal of stones placed on the road outside the mosque. While the community initially agreed to remove the stones voluntarily, fresh trouble started shortly after.

Once the stones were cleared, some individuals reportedly began installing permanent iron railings and angles to demarcate a boundary. This move drew strong objections from other locals and the administration, as the structures were seen as encroaching onto the public road.

Midnight Clashes and Injuries

The situation turned violent around 3:00 AM today when police and administrative officials arrived with a JCB machine to remove the newly installed iron railings.

A mob gathered at the spot and began pelting stones at the security forces. To control the situation, the police resorted to firing tear gas shells and using mild force to disperse the crowd.

  • Casualties: At least six policemen sustained injuries, mostly to the head, and were rushed to a nearby hospital. Their condition is currently reported as stable.
  • Damage: Several police vehicles were damaged during the stone-pelting incident.

Current Status and Administrative Action

Senior police officials, including DCP West Hanuman Prasad Meena and Special Police Commissioner Rahul Prakash, reached the spot to oversee the security arrangements. Additional forces from nearby stations, including Vishwakarma, Harmada, and Daulatpura, have been deployed to maintain peace.

"The situation is now under control and peaceful. We have detained around half a dozen individuals for questioning. Strict action will be taken against those who took the law into their hands," stated DGP (Law and Order) Sanjay Agarwal.

Internet Shutdown and Flag March

To prevent any further escalation or communal disharmony, internet services in Chomu have been suspended for 24 hours. The police also conducted a flag march through the town's main streets on Friday morning to reassure residents and restore a sense of security.

The administration has appealed to the public to maintain calm and not fall prey to unverified social media posts.
