The city is speeding up infrastructure development under a ₹400 crore special package from the state government to develop the whole city. The city is working towards roads, central medians, dividers, junctions, greenery, lighting and other key city facilities and works to make sure that these are completed within the targeted time frame.

Recently, GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg visited the ongoing central median development work from Dutt Highland Junction to Polamamba Temple in Siripuram. The inspection was conducted to check the progress of the work and where it could be done faster. The Commissioner directed engineering officials to ensure that the projects move ahead as per plan and do not compromise on the quality standards.

The ₹400 crore special package is intended to support a number of urban development projects in Visakhapatnam. Major roads, central medians, dividers and key junctions are among the infrastructure components that are being taken up under the development programme. Such projects should not only help to improve the physical condition and appearance of important stretches but also make the city more organized and modern.

Central medians are one of the major aspects of the programme in the development and improvement. These spaces are very important to road safety, traffic control and overall appearance of major city corridors. These projects are also investing in greenery and landscaping. By planting greenery along important roads and junctions, it is part of the visual improvement in the city.

Modern lighting is also an important feature of the beautification programme. GVMC is working on central lighting and improving electric poles on certain parts of the site. The lighting is to improve visibility and enhance the look of the major roads and public spaces at night. Modern designs are also being incorporated into bus bays and central median electric poles as part of the urban improvement works.

The Commissioner has instructed engineering officials to keep close watch on the projects and ensure that construction and development activities are of high quality. Meanwhile, timely completion will also be emphasized. In this environment, it is not accepted that projects will last past their deadline, but that we will monitor progress very closely and deal with execution issues as soon as possible.

Daily monitoring is expected to be one of the key aspects of the implementation process. GVMC officials will coordinate with NCC officials to monitor the progress of the works and ensure that the various activities fit in with the planned schedule. Regular monitoring can help civic authorities to spot problems, coordinate with different institutions and keep the project running on schedule.

The beautification and infrastructure drive is taking place while Visakhapatnam is preparing for the Partnership Summit. As the event comes up, the city authorities are trying to improve the major roads, junctions and public spaces that contribute to the city's overall urban image. So development works are going to be faster and contribute to long-term city improvement and at the same time preparation for the big event.

The projects would bring visible changes in several important areas of Visakhapatnam for residents and commuters. Better medians, redesigned junctions, better lighting, landscaped areas and updated bus bays are among the changes to be made to the streets as part of the wider package. But the extent and timing of these improvements will depend on the progress of the projects and their scheduled completion.

Quality in combination with speed is critical because fast infrastructure implementation demands coordination across engineering and civic departments. According to GVMC’s advice, officials will have to balance faster implementation with technical and quality requirements. This approach is intended to ensure that the infrastructure created under the special package meets the standards specified for the projects.

The Dutt Highland Junction to Polamamba Temple stretch in Siripuram is one of the places where development work is currently being monitored. The Commissioner’s inspection provided an opportunity to review the ongoing work directly and issue instructions to the engineering teams responsible for implementation.

The ₹400 crore package is a significant investment in Visakhapatnam's urban infrastructure. It covers both functional improvements such as roads and junctions and aesthetic aspects, including greenery, lighting and modern designs. The projects will bring about fundamental changes in many of the major areas of the city if executed on schedule.

With GVMC’s ongoing monitoring of the works, timely completion, quality control and coordination with stakeholders will continue to be key priorities. The civic body focuses on speeding up development in Visakhapatnam and developing a green, better-lit and visually modern urban environment.
