A video on social media has filmed a tense incident in South Mumbai in which a civilian allegedly attacked a police officer in broad daylight, the incident was captured in front of an officer and two other officers were seen nearby.
The circumstances of the alleged attack are not shown in the video. The video shows one person engaging physically with another person who is at the site. Social media users have been sharing the video and trying to get more info on what happened.
At this stage, the identity of the civilian, the police officer involved and the exact location of the incident have not been independently established from the circulating footage. We do not know whether any complaint, FIR or arrest has been recorded in connection with the incident.
Videos of confrontations with police personnel spread quickly on social media, but short clips may not give the full picture. In this case, the video appears to capture only part of the episode, so it’s hard to determine what happened before or after the confrontation.
The presence of two other police officers in the video has also caught people’s attention. They appear to be there at the same time as the incident goes on and the footage does not clearly show their roles or what actions were subsequently taken.

The alleged assault comes amid continuing media coverage of police and civilians in Mumbai. A recent viral video from South Mumbai featured a traffic constable pushing a heavily loaded bicycle while police personnel were clearing a road for a VIP convoy.
The constable was removed from field duty and was assigned to the Byculla Traffic Training Centre, reports said.
For the latest video, however, official information on the identities of those involved, the reason for the confrontation and any police action were not available in the information accompanying the social media post. Any claims made online should therefore be treated as allegations until confirmed by Mumbai Police or other authoritative sources.
But the video has raised the question of whether there should be public order and dispute resolution without physical confrontation. It will be the case that the situation will be clear over time or by the time we have some proof of the incident or legal action.
