West Bengal government has reaffirmed its commitment to building one of the best police forces in the country despite financial constraints. The assurance was made at the annual ‘Bada Khana’ event at Swami Vivekananda State Police Academy in Barrackpore, located in North 24 Parganas district.
To police personnel in the annual gathering of local police personnel who gathered for the annual ceremony, the state leadership acknowledged the dedication and professionalism of the West Bengal Police in keeping law and order in the state.
The police organization was thanked for their efforts in policing and crime reduction, public safety and taking action against corruption as well as the government for the continued support of the government in strengthening policing infrastructure and taking care of personnel welfare measures for the police officers and staff.
The annual ‘Bada Khana’ is a traditional gathering to recognize the service and commitment of police personnel. Senior officials and the government can meet with officers and staff, acknowledge their efforts and raise the morale of the force.
There was a strong emphasis during the speech that the state has financial limitations but that efforts to modernize the police force and enhance efficiency will continue to be made. Better training, better equipment, better technology and better policing capabilities are the government’s top priorities.
The leadership also stressed how essential the West Bengal Police is in maintaining peace and stability in one of India’s largest states. Police are working under stress to deal with emergencies, to deal with public events, to be in control of traffic, to solve crimes and to maintain order.
Special appreciation was also extended to officers involved in anti-corruption initiatives and crime prevention efforts. Authorities noted that maintaining transparency and accountability within law enforcement institutions is essential for strengthening public confidence in the justice system.
Modern policing has become much more challenging and intricate in light of cybercrime, financial fraud, organized crime and technology-based crime. Police forces across India have now to invest in digital tools, forensic instruments, AI-based surveillance systems, cyber security systems, and specialized training programmes in order to tackle these ever changing problems.
West Bengal Police are also ramping up technology in policing, including digital record management, online citizen services, emergency response systems, and better communication networks. Technology-based policing will help improve response times, enhance investigative efficiency, and enhance public safety, they said.

Law enforcement experts stress that to build a police force of the highest quality that can do so takes more than money from the police force. Training, ethical standards, leadership development and technology innovation and public engagement are also critical to modern policing.
Despite financial problems, the state government said it would keep working on improving policing standards and that it will continue to strengthen policing skills and give police officers the financial resources needed for them to do their job effectively. In the future there will be continued improvement in skills development, the application of modern investigative techniques and institutional capacity and growth in capability development, as a matter of course.
The event also provided an opportunity to acknowledge the work that police personnel get to do, all day, every day, in order to keep people safe, monitor and keep the peace and order in festivals, elections and natural disasters. Their work and contribution to peace and security had to be appreciated and the state in general was the main reason for this.
As police expectations from the public are evolving, governments around the country are increasingly concerned with professional, technology-enabled and citizen-friendly police forces. West Bengal’s focus on modernization, accountability and personnel welfare is representative of this universal trend.
With ongoing efforts to enhance training, build infrastructure, to adopt technology, to enhance technology and to support the police personnel despite financial limitations, the West Bengal government will continue to strengthen the capabilities of its police force and to ensure that it is law enforcement and public safety in the state by maintaining law enforcement and public safety in general.
