West Bengal government introduced the Pink Card for women to travel free of charge on all state-run AC and non-AC buses across the state. The initiative, which was launched on 1 June 2026, is to promote women's mobility and use of public transportation. Women can still travel free if they come to the bus conductor and show a valid government-issued photo ID and get a zero-value ticket.
The scheme covers short-distance and long-distance services provided by state transport undertakings. The Pink Card will eventually become the primary travel pass for beneficiaries, authorities have emphasized.
Who can apply?
Women who are permanent residents of West Bengal are eligible to apply for the Pink Card. As part of the verification process, applicants must provide valid identity and residence documents.
Documents Required
As a result, applicants should keep the following documents in hand:
- Government-issued photo identity proof (like Aadhaar Card, EPIC/Voter ID or any other government IDs).
- Proof of permanent residence in West Bengal. Recent passport-size photograph. Active mobile number.
The official notification also lists several other acceptable government-issued identity documents, including PAN Card, Passport, Driving Licence, Ayushman Bharat Health Card, service identity cards, and certain educational identity cards.
How to Apply
At present, the government notification states that offline applications can be submitted through government offices where applicants can submit the prescribed form along with supporting documents.
Offline Process:
- Residents in rural areas should submit their applications to the Block Development Officer (BDO) or the designated authority.
- All applicants in urban areas should go to their local government office as given by the state authorities.
- Once document verification is established, a digital Smart Card with QR code, picture, and beneficiary details will be issued.
Temporary Travel Arrangement
Until the Smart Cards are available, eligible women can still get free travel by producing a valid government-issued photo identity card. Bus conductors will issue a Zero Value Ticket after verifying the identity document.
The Pink Card initiative is expected to benefit lakhs of women, including students, working professionals, senior citizens and daily commuters, and will also increase access to affordable and convenient public transport in West Bengal.
