One day prior to the wedding, the groom called his bride‑to‑be with a demand. He asked her to convince her father to give him a Thar SUV rather than the Alto car that was arranged. Life would be more pleasant, he argued, if they had a Thar, who they could take along on their trips. The girl was upset. She said that it had been cumbersome to find the money for an Alto itself and that a Thar was far out of their financial means. But the groom was stubborn. He maintained, since he had a government job, that he was entitled to have a better car, as well as other men in similar jobs.
