The woman killed in the accident goes by the name Chandana, a resident of Bengaluru’s Peenya. The accident took place on the airport road of the national highway, close to Bhuvanahalli Gate, near the Devanahalli taluk in the Bengaluru Rural District. But initially, the scooter, Jupiter, that caused the accident was en route from Devanahalli to Bengaluru.

Witnesses said that the bike was rolling down the slope of the bridge, that being the Bhuvanahalli bridge, when it struck a bicycle on the road and fell into the road. It had dire consequences, as witnesses said. The scooter slammed into the road, then banged the divider grill, taking it off balance.

Chandana, who had been sitting at a pillion on her bike, was spun to the ground by the collision. She was critically ill and died in the street without medical assistance being provided. The deadly crash shocked commuters, as well as locals. The scooter rider and the bike rider sustained very serious injuries.

On the scene, some individuals rushed out to rescue and alerted emergency services if the situation was deemed an emergency. The injured were later taken to the local hospital for medical help. Devanahalli Traffic Police Officers arrived shortly after the accident occurred. Officers looked over the scene, received paperwork and launched an investigation into exactly why the crash occurred.

The authorities are asking whether the crash was caused by the driver’s overspeeding, poor visibility over the slope of the bridge or careless driving. Another avenue could be video and video surveillance elsewhere.

The crash imposed temporary congestion on the narrow strip from the crowded airport strip to the freeway as police and rescue personnel cleared the damaged vehicles and slowed traffic entering and exiting the airport’s facilities. The tragedy created extra concern about road safety on roads in and around Devanahalli and on highways in the region, which are under pressure due to a large vehicle fleet heading towards Kempegowda International Airport.

Before this incident took place, the residents said authorities were prepared to invest to make controlling traffic easier, to create warning signs and to better monitor parts that were accident-prone. And the slopes between bridges and high-speed highways are dangerous, experts in driving say, since the cars know where they are going and change lanes instantly and are more responsive to the light on the road.

They've stressed the need for cautious driving and keeping vehicles at reasonable distances, particularly on roads where bicycles and two-wheelers share the road. Chandana’s body was released for post-mortem examination, with the police continuing their own investigation as one final intervention method.
