Jio Studios has made a digital goldmine of the first Dhurandhar, which alone grossed in excess of ₹1,300 crore worldwide following a landmark box office success. JioHotstar has acquired streaming rights for Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge as part of a blockbuster deal for ₹150 crore.
A Strategic Shift: Going from Netflix to JioHotstar
While its first installment of the espionage thriller hit Netflix on Jan. 30, 2026, the sequel is streaming on the newly merged JioHotstar service. Netflix had previously provided a ‘bundled’ investment of ₹175 crore for both films before the first film. But Jio Studios “played the long game,” placing a wager on the first film’s theatrical output to pump up the value of its sequel.
The strategy worked perfectly. In choosing to wait so long, the makers have won ₹150 crore in just the second part alone — almost double the ₹85 crore that Netflix is said to have paid in covering the digital rights of the first film.
Why the High Price Tag?
The value of ₹150 crore is especially high considering the current ‘conservative’ climate of OTT acquisitions. Several factors contributed to this premium:
- The “Blockbuster” Legacy: Having become part of an All-Time Blockbuster saga, Part 1 has been referred to as a “guaranteed” viewer-puller for any streaming service.
- Massive Theatrical Buzz: Bitter theatrical chatter surrounds Dhurandhar 2 a teaser teased on February 3 and some of its fans point to the recycled shot set from the film as a whole.
- Cross-Platform Synergy: This film is being produced by Jio Studios, so moving it to its parent company’s streaming platform (JioHotstar) and the television channel (Star Gold) helps them to have a more integrated marketing and revenue model.
When to Watch?
Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge, directed by Aditya Dhar, is slated for major on-screen release on 19th March 2026, with the Yash-starrer Toxic in its lap. Within the normal 8-week theatrical space, the film can be expected to debut on JioHotstar in mid-May 2026.
This deal further solidifies Ranveer Singh’s status as one of the world’s most bankable stars in virtual media and shows what a powerful force India’s own film industry has become with the “Dhurandhar” brand.
