Set for the historic M.A. Chidambaram Stadium (Chepauk) today, February 26, 2026, it is a critical do-or-die battle on the Indian side, and the city's transportation authorities are doing all in their power to facilitate a smooth sailing for the participants. This is part of a joint venture between CMRL and the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA). In line with the huge number of footfalls in place at Chepauk, the authorities implemented a match ticket into the metro ticketing system.

Now instead of waiting in queues for tokens or cards, fans will be able to use the unique QR code on either their physical or digital match ticket as their travel permit. Fans can also make a free round trip from any metro station in the city to the Government Estate metro station, which is the closest gate to the stadium, simply by scanning these codes at the gates of the Automatic Fare Collection (AFC).

Evening Services and Links

Realising T20 matches typically last late into the evening, CMRL has also announced expanded train service to accommodate the rush for transfers after matches. Most regular services conclude earlier, but trains will remain in service until 12:00 AM (midnight) on match day.

  • Late Departure: The final trains will depart from Government Estate station at midnight, with one headed for the Wimco Nagar Depot (Blue Line) and another to the Chennai Airport.
  • Interchange Policy: Passengers that are required to interlude with the Green Line (Corridor 2) after 11:00 PM shall do so at Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. M.G. Ramachandran Central Metro Station. To keep track of the safety and order of this time, entry into Government Estate will be restricted up to 10 minutes before the last train leaves.

CMRL has also deployed more staff and security personnel to major stations, to aid in crowd management and lead the way.

A Game That Matters

So much for the Men in Blue On the streets of Chennai, there is certainly excitement as a match against Zimbabwe is a game-win for India's Suryakumar Yadav-led side. But India’s champions are on thin ice after a severe 76-run loss to South Africa at Ahmedabad, the opening in the Super 8.

And tonight is a crucial win for India to maintain its semifinal ambitions, which means a packed Chepauk stadium will be even more crucial. While this convenience for fans is important, this “Park and Ride” initiative serves an important larger purpose: It has also helped ease the extreme traffic congestion commonly experienced in the Triplicane and Chepauk areas during major sporting events near the stadium. The city wants to reduce its environmental impact and the logistics of parking in the vicinity of the stadium by encouraging the use of public transport.
