At a sudden turn of events, Warner, the Australian opening batsman and captain of the Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League (PSL 2026), was arrested and charged with drink driving in Sydney on April 5, 2026. Warner was on a short break from the current T20 tournament in Pakistan.
The Incident in Maroubra
According to the New South Wales (NSW) Police, the 39-year-old cricketer was stopped during a stationary random breath testing operation on Malabar Road, Maroubra, at 5:30 PM on Sunday.
Police saw a van that stopped short of the testing site and parking. Officers approached the car and took the driver (who was later identified as David Warner) to a roadside breath test, which was positive. Warner was arrested and taken to the Maroubra Police Station.
Twice the Legal Limit
A secondary breath test at the police station resulted in a reading of 0.104, more than double the legal limit in Australia (0.05). Warner was issued a Field Court Attendance Notice for driving with a middle-range PCA (Prescribed Content of Alcohol). He is due to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday, May 7, 2026.
Status for PSL 2026
The timing of the arrest has cast a shadow over the Karachi Kings' campaign. Warner is going back to Pakistan soon to resume captaincy of the team, the court heard.
Karachi Kings will play Peshawar Zalmi on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at National Stadium in Karachi. Warner's court date is coming up and it is not clear if he would be available for the match but the team management has said that Warner will be available for this match. But his long-term availability for the second leg of the tournament still needs to be taken into account as well.
Recent Viral Spat Rumors
The arrest came only days after Warner had to address the viral video of teammate Moeen Ali being in a heated battle with Warner during a match against Rawalpindi. Warner put out that the encounter was just a “joke” and that they were just poking fun at Team Director Haider Azhar.
Looks like heated argument erupted between David Warner and Moeen Ali following Karachi Kings' match against Pindiz in PSL.

Although chemistry is still alive on the field for this legendary opener who retired from international cricket in June 2024, this off-field legal difficulty is very tough.
