Delhi Capitals are getting more star power in their organisation ahead of the 2027 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. And with former India all-rounders Yuvraj Singh and Sourav Ganguly as the head coach and a coaching staff of some of India’s biggest names, the team will be able to do even better.
The selection of Yuvraj as the assistant coach on October 13, 2026 has made fans very excited. With Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul in the team as well as some renowned players such as Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul in the team’s mix Delhi Capitals are now in a position to contend at the IPL with the right mix of international experience and leadership and batting skills to win the first IPL title.
Yuvraj Singh joins Delhi Capitals as a batting coach.
Delhi Capitals have appointed Yuvraj Singh as their assistant and batting coach ahead of the IPL season. It is his first coaching job in the league for which he was appointed the assistant and batting coach.
Yuvraj was one of India’s biggest match-winners. He played a crucial role in India’s 2007 T20 World Cup win and 2011 ODI World Cup victory.
Yuvraj brings much-needed experience to the dressing room for his aggressive cricketing skills, left-arm spin, and ability to perform under pressure. His work with young cricketers in the last few years and his role as a mentor are also well known to him.
The former all-rounder was with the Delhi Daredevils when he played for Delhi during the 2015 IPL season. He is back in a coaching role and will have another chance to help the team in winning.
Sourav Ganguly takes charge as Head Coach
Yuvraj's appointment follows Sourav Ganguly's return to the head coach position for the 2027 IPL season. Delhi Capitals announced Ganguly's appointment on October 6, 2026.
Ganguly is known for his leadership as India's captain, and also his experience in cricket administration. He has also worked with the Delhi Capitals setup in different capacities.
As the franchise struggles to end its absence of an IPL championship, that is where his experience in developing competitive teams will come in.
With Ganguly’s leadership and Yuvraj’s batting knowledge Delhi Capitals have a strong coaching partnership. Both have been part of major achievements in Indian cricket and know the demands of performing at the highest level.

Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul add Star Power.
There are also big names in Delhi Capitals among the major Indian players. Rishabh Pant is known for his attacking wicketkeeping and fearless batting, and KL Rahul has much experience in the top part of the order and at different batting positions.
Pant is closely connected with Delhi Capitals so his presence is really important to supporters. Rahul’s experience in international cricket and IPL is another great option in the batting department.
Young players and experienced former internationals might help to provide a strong team.
But individual reputations won’t be enough in the end to succeed. Team balance, player fitness, consistent performances and decisions at key points of the game will be key.
Can Delhi Capitals finally win the IPL?
New Delhi Capitals’ plans for IPL 2027 are even more optimistic now that Yuvraj Singh and Ganguly are coming in. Their experience and the talent in the playing group are why fans are hopeful.
The team has made it to the IPL final before but at the moment still has to win its first championship. Now the challenge is to translate talent and experience in leadership into results.
Delhi Capitals may seem like cricket’s version of the Avengers on paper but their real test will come on the field. If coaching staff and players come together, the team could turn into legitimate contenders in the next IPL season, in fact.
