Yograj Singh’s comments in a recent interview that went viral fast and raised many questions on the internet about Dhoni and Dev’s behaviour did not go unnoticed by cricket fans. His comments got people’s ire up on social media and people dubbed his comments rude and disrespectful for two of the country’s most celebrated cricket players.

Yuvraj Singh’s reaction came after he felt the need to distance himself from the comments, apologised for his own comment and expressed regret for what he said. “I have big respect for Dhoni and Kapil Dev,” he said.

Yuvraj said the father’s views were personal and not necessarily endorsed by him. “Both Dhoni and Kapil Dev are great players who helped to shape Indian cricket and inspire many more."

Dhoni, who won several World Cup titles, including the 2011 World Cup and led the team to success in 1983 World Cup, are two of the greatest cricket players. Any criticism towards them will be met with anger from the cricket team and the fan base.

Yuvraj’s apology was a message of remorse to the cricket world and to prevent such a flare-up from coming up again, sources close to the matter said. His apology was appreciated by many as it’s a mature and responsible response.

Yuvraj Singh remains one of India’s most celebrated cricketers and his many game-winning performances, including in India’s World Cup victory in 2011, are the reason why supporters feel safe in taking him to task.

So the incident once again underlines how public figures’ words can have huge repercussions in countries where cricket is very much a part of their lives.

Neither Dhoni nor Dev has spoken up to date on the apology. But the situation looks to be settling down now and the fans are slowly getting over it to be fair for all sides of the team and have no doubt that there is mutual respect between them.
