India Women's Cricket Team achieved a record-breaking batting performance in the final of the Asian Games 2026 - 216/3 in 20 overs against Sri Lanka at Korogi Sports Park on Tuesday.
The big total is the highest in women's cricket at the Asian Games. India surpassed Hong Kong's previous record of 202/4, which was scored against Mongolia at the Hangzhou Games in 2023.
The defending champions were propelled by explosive strikes from Smriti Mandhana and Richa Ghosh, while Shafali Verma also made a great impact at the top of the order.
Smriti Mandhana is leading India’s record-breaking start
India chose to bat first after winning the toss and got off to a flying start.
Mandhana was aggressive at the start and reached 11,000 international runs in her innings. She became the first woman cricketer to achieve the milestone in Tests, ODIs and T20Is.
The India vice-captain went on to score 79 runs from 45 balls, with five fours and seven sixes. Her aggressive innings paved the way for India to win a huge total in the gold medal match.
Mandhana and Shafali Verma added 99 runs for the opening wicket, and India made a good start, but the partnership was broken.
Shafali also contributed a quick 48, continuing the form that saw her score an unbeaten century in India’s semifinal victory over Bangladesh. India had beaten Bangladesh by 114 runs after posting 195/4 in the semifinal.

Richa Ghosh Provides Explosive Finish
After Mandhana’s dismissal in the 17th over, wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh took charge during the last stages of the innings.
Ghosh went on to make an unbeaten 49 off 22 balls as India needed to score 200 runs. Her late assault helped India to 216/3 from 20 overs.
India's innings had contributions from the top order, and the team's aggressive approach kept the scoreboard moving throughout the final.
Harmanpreet Kaur made 19 before being dismissed; Mandhana's 79 and Ghosh's unbeaten 49 were the most significant individual contributions in the innings.
The 216-run total is also one of India's highest scores in women's T20 international cricket, according to reports after the innings.
India Set Sri Lanka A Huge Target
With 216/3 on the board, India set Sri Lanka a target of 217 runs to win the Asian Games gold medal.
The final is a rematch of the women's cricket gold medal match from the 2023 Asian Games, when India also faced Sri Lanka. The two teams had met in the women's Asia Cup in 2026.
Sri Lanka entered the final with a great semifinal performance against Pakistan. Chamari Athapaththu made 83 from 50 balls and Sri Lanka chased Pakistan's 177/4 with eight wickets in hand.
India went to the final after an impressive semifinal win over Bangladesh. Shafali Verma's 100 took India to 195/4 before Bangladesh was dismissed for 81.
The final would then bring together two teams that have produced strong batting performances in the tournament.
After the first innings, India is 216/3 ahead; the record 216/3 for India puts the defending champions in a strong position. Sri Lanka will need to chase the biggest total ever for women's cricket at the Asian Games.
The gold-medal match is still to be decided, but India’s record-setting batting display has already given an additional chapter to the team’s Asian Games campaign.
