The Indian Super League (ISL) Shield winners Jamshedpur FC have quit the league and announced its exit in an official social media post for the 2026-27 season. The Tata Group-owned club has been in the league since it was established in 2017 and has won the ISL Shield title for the first time in the 2021-22 season. Jamshedpur FC was the only club that left and it has been a big loss for the top league - in the last season they really competed for the title and ended up four points behind the champions East Bengal.
While the club has left the top-tier league, it has also made it clear that its journey isn’t over when it comes to development and the development will not be the end. Jamshedpur FC has shown a full commitment to developing Indian football through all the grassroots and youth development opportunities. The management also emphasized the fact that they have a long-term vision to identify, nurture, and train young football talent from all over the country to build up a pathway to the national and international level as fast as possible that can take aspiring players to the top in the game.

Given Jamshedpur FC's stunning exit, which is a major void in the top division, the top level of Indian club football is now down to 13 teams. Now that the Tata Group-backed club has been disbanded, the situation is more complex in terms of club football economics and sustainability. Yet the legacy of the Red Miners at the Furnace and their long-standing love of youth football will live on for years to come.
