India cricketer Kranti Goud has been at the center of a social media row after a video of Pakistan fans allegedly making sexist comments about India’s female cricketer during the Women’s Asia Cup T20 match is being circulated in Indian media.
As seen on the video posted online, fans are seen commenting on Goud’s appearance and repeatedly asking her gender. The comments have outraged cricket fans and several people on social media say personal attacks based on a player’s appearance, gender or identity are not allowed in professional sport. However, the identity of those people heard in the video and the precise conditions that led to it being recorded have not been verified.
A lot of women cricketers and sports personalities are subjected to often sexist and abusive remarks about their appearance and physical features and the way they look but their sporting success can often overshadow the person in question. And Goud’s alleged incident has once again raised questions about spectator behaviour and fans’ duty to respect each other in sports venues.

The video came after India’s dominant performance in the Women’s Asia Cup against Pakistan. And while the story was online all the way through, India won the match on the field with a seven-wicket victory. Pakistan was struggling the entire innings and was reduced to 55 runs in 18.1 overs.
India’s bowlers were also able to destroy Pakistan’s batting order. Young spinners Shree Charani and Prema Rawat had a good start with three wickets each and Charani finished with 3/7 and Rawat with 3/9 from her four overs. Deepti Sharma also helped India with two wickets for a total of 5 runs. Shafali Verma took another wicket as India continued to keep pressure on Pakistan throughout the innings.
Pakistan initially made a strong start after 27 without losing a wicket at the start of the innings. But the innings rapidly collapsed. The Indian bowlers exploited the conditions and put the Pakistan batters under sustained pressure, resulting in a stunning sequence in which Pakistan lost six wickets for only nine runs. From 27/0 to 36/6 and finally were dismissed for 55.
The low total gave India a straightforward chase. India reached the target in only 8.4 overs, but they lost three wickets in the chase. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur was unbeaten on 18 and ended the game with a six to complete the win. Deepti Sharma was not out on 12 and India crossed the finish line comfortably.
The seven-wicket victory further solidified India’s strong record in the Women’s T20 Asia Cup against Pakistan. India has dominated the rivalry in the tournament and the win was just another impressive victory for them.
