IPL 2027 Trade Buzz: Mumbai Indians Eye Yashasvi Jaiswal in Potential Hardik Pandya Swap With Rajasthan Royals

The IPL 2027 cycle could see one of the most discussed trades of the recent times - Mumbai Indians may also look to make a move for Rajasthan Royals opener Yashasvi Jaiswal. The speculation has also included a big swap deal with Mumbai Indians all-rounder and captain Hardik Pandya in the team. Unfortunately, neither team has officially declared that a trade is in place yet in the process.

Jaiswal's future at Rajasthan Royals is in the limelight after a fairly modest IPL 2026 campaign. The left-handed opener contributed 427 runs from 16 games and an average of 30.50 and a strike rate of 152.50. He also made three half-centuries, and scored an unbeaten 77. That is strong but not how he has played as one of India’s most talented young batsmen.

And much of the attention in the Rajasthan camp in the 2026 season was on Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. The young opener had an early breakthrough season and is now one of the tournament's brightest prospects. His rapid development could be a factor that Rajasthan will have to think about the long-term opening combination in terms of a long-term approach to their opening pair but so far it is not clear the Royals have decided to move on from Jaiswal.

According to myKhel, the management in Rajasthan Royals is “not entirely satisfied” with Jaiswal’s attitude. Such things have fueled speculation about his future in the franchise. But a report of internal concern should be treated with suspicion without any official comment from Rajasthan Royals or Jaiswal himself.

The prospect of moving to Mumbai Indians has added another dimension to the story. Jaiswal has already proved himself as an explosive top-order batter and a quick powerplay machine who can score in the powerplay so a franchise with a desire to build its long-term Indian core is at peace with him. For the next few seasons, the Mumbai franchise could have another explosive Indian opener to fall back on.

Hardik Pandya being involved in the rumoured deal makes it all the more interesting. Pandya has a completely different skill set - power-hitting and seam bowling plus leadership experience. If Rajasthan were to take him in, he would bring a lot of talent and balance to the team. There is one problem we heard of as to why: leadership. Rajasthan have an investment in Riyan Parag, and the franchise might not really want Pandya to take over as the captain.

Acquiring Jaiswal would be a big investment for Mumbai Indians. The left-hander has already proved his ability to score heavily in the IPL and has the potential to remain a key part of India's batting lineup for years. His aggressive approach and ability to dominate both pace and spin could also complement Mumbai's existing batting resources.

In the end, though, a trade will have to depend on several factors in mind and that player availability, salary considerations, franchise strategy and the agreement of all parties involved on a trade. IPL trades are conducted under league rules and a headline-making offer will not always translate into a successful transfer.

Jaiswal's overall record with Rajasthan Royals shows why he is still such a valuable player. He has 2,593 runs at an average of 33.68 and a strike rate of 152.80 in 83 games and 82 innings. He has scored two centuries and 18 half-centuries, 310 fours and 110 sixes.

He had his best season in 2023, when he scored 625 runs in 14 games at an amazing average of 48.08 and a strike rate of 163.61. He followed that with 435 runs in 16 matches in 2024 (including a 104 against Mumbai Indians). Jaiswal also delivered again in 2025 and was Rajasthan's top run-scorer with 559 runs in 14 games at an average of 43.00 and strike rate of 159.71.

One relatively quiet season isn’t likely to erase Jaiswal’s already established value. And the IPL 2027 trade talks will ultimately hinge on whether Rajasthan feel that a major squad reshuffle is required and Mumbai are prepared to part ways with a player of Pandya’s importance.

However, the Hardik Pandya-Yashasvi Jaiswal swap is still a reported possibility and not a certain IPL trade. If talks do take place, however, the blockbuster could become one of the biggest stories of the IPL 2027 offseason.
