The two qualifier teams will be confirmed through the qualification process in 2027. South Africa and Zimbabwe qualified directly as co-hosts while other teams achieved direct qualification based on the ICC ODI rankings cut-off for the tournament.

India vs Australia to Open Group Campaign

India will begin its World Cup campaign against Australia on October 7, 2027, in Cape Town. It will be a repeat of the 2023 World Cup final which Australia won in Ahmedabad.

India's next big Group Stage match will be against arch-rivals Pakistan on October 10 in Johannesburg.

India will then face Afghanistan on October 14 in Tshwane, Qualifier A on October 17 in Bloemfontein and Zimbabwe on October 24 at Victoria Falls.

New Super 7 format to be released.

The 2027 World Cup will have a new competition structure. The tournament starts with a three-team Super Series in Namibia with the second-, third- and fourth-placed teams from the World Cup Qualifier.

The 12 teams remaining in the Group Stage will be divided into two groups of six. Each team will play five matches.

The top three teams from each group, and the best performing fourth team, will move to the Super 7 phase. The seven teams will then play each other once.

When are the semi-finals and final?

The semi-finals are scheduled for November 17 and 18, 2027, and will take place in Cape Town and Tshwane. Both semi-finals will have reserve days.

The final of the 2027 ODI World Cup is scheduled for November 21 in Johannesburg with November 22 being the reserve day.

When was the Schedule announced?

The ICC announced the entire fixture schedule and groups on October 1, 2026 in Cape Town. The announcement also opened the official ticket-ballot registration for fans.

The 2027 edition will be the 14-team ODI World Cup, with matches in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia. The tournament will have 57 matches, including the Super Series, Group Stage, Super 7, semi-finals and final.

With India on the team together with Australia and Pakistan, the Group Stage already has a lot of big-ticket matches and the Super 7 format adds another dimension to the tournament structure.
