President Droupadi Murmu has congratulated India’s women’s trap shooting team after the country won a silver medal at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
The Indian shooters Neeru Dhanda, Aashima Ahlawat and Manisha Keer finished second in the women’s trap team event, adding another medal to India’s shooting campaign at the continental sporting event.
President Murmu took to X to praise the three shooters after their podium performance. She thanked the athletes and praised them for their focus and accuracy in the competition and wished them the best in their future careers.
The silver medal has added to India’s growing medal tally at the Asian Games and shooting is again a major part of the country’s campaign. Indian shooters have been in action in rifle, pistol and shotgun events at the Games.
Women's trap was another opportunity for India’s shooters to show their consistency at the international level. Dhanda, Ahlawat and Keer managed to maintain their composure during the competition and finished with a silver medal for the Indian contingent.
The success has also given a new perspective on India’s increasing representation in shooting, which has regularly contributed medals in major international events for India. The women’s trap team’s performance also strengthened India’s position in the shotgun discipline.
The 2026 Asian Games are being held in Aichi-Nagoya and athletes from around the continent will be taking part in a variety of sports events. India has a large contingent in shooting, athletics, boxing, archery, squash, cycling and kabaddi.
