Sree Charani became the highest rated bowler in the ICC Women’s T20I Bowling Rankings in the latest rankings. The Indian left-handed spinner scored 817 rating points in the latest rankings released on September 29, 2026.
Charani was already ranked No. 1 in the world, but her latest achievement has taken her to a new level. Her 817 rating points are 11 more than the previous record of 806, held by former Australia seamer Megan Schutt since November 2018.
Sree Charani's Historic ICC Ranking
Charani now has the highest rating ever recorded by a bowler in the women's T20I rankings, the latest ICC update.
That is quite remarkable, when taken into account how fast she has grown up in international cricket (she made her debut with India in 2025) and became the world's No. 1 T20I bowler for the first time on June 23, 2026. At that time she was ahead of England's Linsey Smith after a great record at the Women's T20 World Cup.
The update on September 29 is therefore another landmark in her rapid rise.
Asian Games Performance Strengthens Her Position
Charani’s new record was helped by her performance during India’s successful Asian Games campaign in Japan.
Charani scored 2/13 in the women's gold medal match of September 22, as India took 147 runs in a dominant victory. India attained 216/3 before bowling Sri Lanka out for 69 to win the gold medal.
Charani's performance consolidated her position at the top of the T20I bowling rankings and took her rating to the historic 817 in the rankings.
From Asia Cup Success to World Record
Charani had already made headlines earlier in September during India's victorious Women's Asia Cup campaign.
She took 4/20 in the final against Sri Lanka, which India won by a 72-run victory and won their eighth Women’s Asia Cup title. That performance took her rating above 800 points for the first time and to 804, two points short of Schutt’s then-record 806.
Her subsequent performances at the Asian Games helped her to go beyond that mark.

India Dominates the Top of the Bowling Rankings
India's success in T20I bowling is also reflected by another Indian spinner near the top.
In the latest ranking, Deepti Sharma is second with 754 rating points and England's Sophie Ecclestone is third with 723 points.
Charani’s record is another big achievement for India’s women’s cricket team after their Asia Cup and Asian Games successes.
When Did Sree Charani Become No. 1?
There are two important dates associated with the milestone. June 23, 2026 was when Charani became the world's No. 1-ranked T20I bowler. September 29, 2026 is when she set the record for the highest rating points of a women's T20I bowler at 817.
The new performance marks a new mark in the ICC rankings record books and evidences her rapid rise as one of India’s top white-ball bowlers.
