A dispute between young Indian cricketer Vipraj Nigam and a woman who had previously accused him of sexual and physical assault has been reignited after she reached his Noida residence and stood by for two hours, waiting to meet the cricketer. Nigam is in Japan with the Indian cricket team for the 2026 Asian Games.
The woman has claimed that Nigam sexually assaulted and physically abused her after allegedly promising to marry her. The alleged incident took place in a hotel in Noida on July 29, 2025, and her complaint was filed with the police, resulting in a case being opened. The claims remain allegations and have not been established by a court.
The latest development took place on September 20, 2026, when the woman arrived at Nigam’s Noida residence. She remained in her car outside the house for about two to three hours to meet the cricketer, the newspaper claimed. Nigam was not present at the residence at the time.
Nigam is currently in Japan during India's Asian Games campaign. He was brought into the Indian squad as a replacement for injured spinner Varun Chakravarthy. Chakravarthy had been ruled out of the Japan T20 and Asian Games due to a side strain, and Nigam was called up.
According to reports on the case, the woman and Nigam first came to know of each other through social media in 2025. The woman later claimed that Nigam had promised her that he was going to marry her and had sexually assaulted her at a Noida hotel. Dainik Jagran, which cites other media sources, quoted the woman as saying she filed a complaint with Gautam Buddh Nagar police and alleged sexual exploitation and physical abuse.
But the case is not one-sided. Nigam had filed a separate police complaint against the woman earlier on that day, claiming she was calling him from different phone numbers and threatening to bring him in a false case. So the dispute has turned into a legal battle between the two sides.
The other important thing is the woman’s earlier statement. Police reported that she had subsequently appeared before a court and said that she had made the complaint in anger and did not want further action. Dainik Jagran said she also denied the earlier allegations of assault during the statement, after which a final report was filed in the case in February 2026.
So the woman’s recent visit to Nigam’s residence has brought the matter back into public attention. She said she wanted to speak to the cricketer and wanted justice, according to reports. Since Nigam was in Japan, she was not able to talk to him personally. Nigam’s family had also spoken to her about the matter.
The controversy comes at the same time Nigam is being feted for his cricketing career. The young leg-spinner has made it into India's Asian Games squad after Chakravarthy's injury. Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, is the site of the 2026 Asian Games from September 19 to October 4, including cricket. Nigam's selection is a huge opportunity for his fledgling career.
