King Kohli Reigns Supreme: Virat Becomes Fastest to 16,000 List A Runs, Shatters Sachin Tendulkar’s Long-Standing Record

Virat Kohli has proven once again why he is regarded as the "King" of the 50-over format. Playing for Delhi in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26, Kohli became the fastest batter in history to reach 16,000 runs in List A cricket, eclipsing a record previously held by the legendary Sachin Tendulkar.

Breaking the "Master Blaster's" Record

Kohli reached the 16,000-run milestone during his breathtaking knock against Andhra Pradesh at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.

  • The Speed: Kohli achieved this feat in just 330 innings, a staggering 61 innings fewer than Sachin Tendulkar, who reached the mark in 391 innings.
  • The Milestone Innings: He marked the occasion with a masterclass century (131 off 101 balls), which was his 58th century in List A cricket.

A Double World Record

Not content with just the runs tally, Kohli also reclaimed the throne for the highest batting average in List A history (for players with a minimum of 5,000 runs).

With a fluent 77-run knock against Gujarat on December 26, Kohli’s average climbed to 57.87, narrowly surpassing the previous world record of 57.86 held by Australian great Michael Bevan.

Top Fastest to 16,000 List A Runs

Rank Player Innings Taken
1 Virat Kohli (India) 330
2 Sachin Tendulkar (India) 391
3 Gordon Greenidge (West Indies) 422
4 Ricky Ponting (Australia) 430

Looking Ahead to 2026 and 2027

This resurgence in domestic cricket comes as a strong signal to the national selectors. After retiring from T20Is and Tests earlier in 2025, Kohli has shifted his entire focus to One Day Internationals (ODIs). His childhood coach, Rajkumar Sharma, noted that Kohli is in "God Mode" and is fully prepared for the 2027 ODI World Cup.

With 53 ODI centuries already under his belt, Kohli is now just seven centuries away from matching Sachin Tendulkar’s all-time record of 60 List A hundreds.
