Jharkhand, renowned for its mineral resources, is in fact always trying to show another side of the state the beauty and tourism potential. Patratu is one of the places in Ramgarh district. And there are also new attractions to visit and new experiences to enjoy.
Patratu Valley is known for its lush greenery, mist-covered hills, winding roads and views of the Patratu reservoir. According to Jharkhand Tourism Department’s (Jharkhand) state-wide view, the valley is 40 km from Ranchi and is one of the most picturesque areas in our state.
Patratu Dam, built to store water from the Nalkari River, is also one of the major attractions and has provided boating facilities for years.
We have now expanded the tourism experience in Patratu with more attractions. Boating is still a major activity at the dam and new visitor facilities are opening up entertainment and leisure opportunities at the site. A floating restaurant has also been launched in Patratu Dam; visitors can eat on the surface of the reservoir.
The floating restaurant is part of Jharkhand's strategy to expand tourism facilities around its water bodies. A July 2026 report said the restaurant can accommodate around 30 people and is being promoted for celebrations, meetings and other special occasions. A musical fountain has also been introduced at the site.

The development adds a modern dimension to a destination that has always attracted visitors for its unique landscapes and outdoor experiences. Patratu facilities are also to be expanded, state tourism authorities have also proposed.
Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has also stressed the importance of listing the state's natural resources along with its mineral wealth. When he was speaking about the tourism potential of the state, Soren said: “God has made us with more than mineral wealth. The treasures He has given us above the ground are even more beautiful than the mineral resources beneath it.”
But the focus on Patratu is part of a wider push to put Jharkhand on the tourism map. The state government describes Jharkhand as a destination of biodiversity, forests, cultural heritage, religious sites and natural attractions and its tourism policy is to develop destinations and support infrastructure.
With the Patratu Valley’s natural surroundings, reservoir views, boating and the new entertainment and dining areas, the place is increasingly attractive to tourists. The expansion also puts Patratu among the places where Jharkhand is trying to marry nature with modern tourism.
Patratu is now being marketed not only as a nice place to hang out but also as a place where people can go for fun, leisure and recreation, and as the state begins to develop its tourism infrastructure, it is also seeing the whole landscape as one of those places.
