And according to Hindu scriptures, astrology and spiritual beliefs, snakes are associated with divine powers and celestial powers like Rahu and Ketu. So, to hurt snakes or eat snake meat is considered a serious spiritual offence that may lead to severe consequences in the Hindu religion (Naga Dosha or Sarpa Dosha).

According to astrology and spiritual texts, snakes are closely connected to the worship of Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu. In most temples in India, snake idols are worshipped in order to obtain good health, prosperity, fertility and family welfare. The ancient beliefs do not tolerate the cruel treatment of snakes, as they are considered to be ancient guardians of nature and cosmic balance.

In astrologer terms, killing snakes or ingesting their meat invites Naga Dosha, a curse that may not only hurt the individual but the family as a whole. Many spiritual practitioners say the effects of this dosha can be carried on through 7 generations if remedies and rituals are not done. Even though these beliefs are based on faith and tradition and not science, they still have some power over the followers.

Naga Dosha people who believe in the traditions say that families in Naga Dosha may encounter repeated obstacles in life. Most often associated with problems are marriages, infertility, lack of children, chronic health issues, financial instability, mental instability, and family disputes. Some astrologers also say that the dosha might lead to hereditary suffering and long-term poverty in one's family line.

Traditional beliefs suggest that families with severe serpent curses may experience difficulties in childbirth or difficulties in continuing their lineage. In some cases, spiritual texts say children of affected families might suffer physical or mental health problems. But these are the religious and astrological observations of believers and are not medically proven facts.

The growth of modern lifestyle trends and exotic food habits has also worried religious scholars. In more recent years, snake meat has been consumed in certain places to make a kind of health food or to satisfy curiosity about foreign foods. But Hindu spiritual experts are concerned that they are spiritually dangerous and morally wrong.

Hindu scholars stress that hurting any living being is antithetical to the values of compassion and dharma that we have learned from Hinduism. They say snakes should never be tortured or killed unnecessarily. Many devotees perform rituals like Naga Panchami and special serpent worship ceremonies to seek blessings and remove Naga Dosha from their horoscopes.

Astrologers and temple priests usually counsel people who are affected by Naga Dosha to seek spiritual guidance and perform prescribed rituals and prayers, and what they believe should be done. They also promote respect for nature and all life forms. If human beings have compassion for animals and cruelty is not seen to be the way to spiritual peace and harmony, then they are the way to spiritual peace and harmony.
