Honda Cars India unveiled the new Honda City for the Indian market. The iconic midsize sedan's 2026 update (ex-showroom) is launching on the market at Rs 12 lakh, which includes cosmetic improvements and better features and also technology, designed to keep the City competitive with competitors like the Volkswagen Virtus, Skoda Slavia and Hyundai Verna.
The new City is the sedan's second full refresh launched since 2023, which features a more elegant design language whilst remaining a continuation of the higher-end practical style of the sedan. On top of the sedan, Honda introduced the ZR-V SUV for purchase in India, showing the company plans to make a bigger hit on its product.
2026 Honda City: A decidedly New exterior design
A key feature of the refreshed City is the new front fascia. The sedan's appearance is a lot more modern and aggressive than that of a more traditional sedan at the time. Now, the front features upgraded LED headlamps, along with the updated honeycomb-pattern grille associated with a sleek light strip.
Honda’s new logo is nestled between the hood and grille in a bold and prominent way that helps set a clean identity. Its bumper too has been redesigned, sporting sporty triangular trims on either side, giving it a dynamic appearance. As much as the side profile maintains the familiar City silhouette (which the sedan leans more heavily on now with alloy wheels that elevate its premium road design).
The pull-style door handles remained the same. From the rear end, Honda updated the taillamps with a smoked finish. The top edge received vertical reflectors. With an integrated spoiler, the boot lid appears cleaner and more modernised. The rear bumper is refreshed, too, to fit the sedan's brighter styling tone. It is at the same time an alternative car with new detailing.
The city just got a whole new energy. The New Honda City is here.

Interior and Features
Honda has maintained the basic dashboard layout in the cabin, but has made a few big upgrades here and there. The biggest difference is its 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, integrating wireless between Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Even for existing customers of Honda, the steering wheel layout and physical buttons to control and steer the wheel are almost the same, but it keeps basic convenience for the regular customers. Highlights are as follows:
- Electric sunroof
- Wireless phone charger
- Front ventilated seats
- Ambient lighting
- Footwell illumination
- Premium 8-speaker audio system
- Automatic climate control
Honda has further beefed up the sedan’s safety package. Now, the 2026 City is outfitted with:
- Six airbags
- 360-degree camera
- Hill hold assist
- Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)
- Electronic stability control
- Rear parking sensors and camera
Powertrain and Hybrid
Operationally, the new Honda City has been powered by the world’s tested 1.5 litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. With a max output of 121 hp and 145 Nm, the engine can be mounted on either a six-speed manual transmission or a CVT automatic gearbox.
The robust hybrid e: HEV powertrain for Honda is also going along. In the hybrid setup, a 1.5-litre petrol motor and electric motor assist the total horsepower of 126 hp and 253 Nm. A model that’s as fuel-efficient as any other, the hybrid variant boasts an astonishing 27.26 kmpl fuel-efficiency rating, and is one of the most fuel-efficient sedans in its class.
Sedans on the Rise at Honda
While the larger SUVs hold a dominant position in the Indian vehicle industry, midsize sedans are becoming more expensive. Honda, however, draws on robust brand equity and customers as loyal as the City.
A redesign, new technology, superior hybrid efficiency and extra robust capabilities for safety should keep buyers on that quest for a premium, comfortable sedan and this is the reason why the new Honda City should remain popular to ready drivers spend money on cars to get them; and in this case Honda will need just such a thing to sustain its premium position and continue gaining consumers who are ready to spend its high priced premium car.
In addition, it’s a statement that Honda is ready to offer its customers traditional petrol and hybrid capabilities because, as consumers in India are looking to save and be more eco-conscious, they want a better vehicle with a lower carbon footprint.
