Kawasaki has introduced the 2027 Ninja 500 in the Indian market with a price tag of Rs 5.76 lakh (ex-showroom). The latest model-year upgrade to the popular middleweight sportbike is welcome but customers should not expect a major mechanical or technological overhaul. The 2027 Ninja 500 continues with the same engine, chassis, suspension setup and core equipment as the outgoing one. This time the colour scheme is a Lime Green with white and blue graphics.

Same 451cc Parallel-Twin Engine
The 2027 Kawasaki Ninja 500, under the fairing, continues to have the same 451cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin petrol engine. The motor generates around 44.38 hp at 9,000rpm and 42.6 Nm of peak torque. It is fed back to the rear wheel via a six-speed gearbox.
The engine is paired with an assist-and-slipper clutch which reduces clutch effort and facilitates aggressive downshifts. The parallel-twin setup also makes the Ninja 500 different from single-cylinder models, and so good for highway driving and day-to-day riding.
There is no change in the engine tuning, gearbox or performance figures for the 2027 model. Thus, acceleration, top-speed potential and overall engine character is largely the same as the outgoing motorcycle.
Chassis & Braking Hardware All Intact
Kawasaki has also kept the Ninja 500's current chassis package. The motorcycle is made up of a lightweight trellis frame, telescopic front suspension and rear linked monoshock. It is designed to balance everyday usability and the handling characteristics of a fully faired sportsbike.
The motorcycle rides on 17-inch wheels and has disc brakes at both ends. Dual-channel ABS is still standard and provides a safety net for riders in emergency braking and slippery road conditions.
With a kerb weight of around 171kg, the Ninja 500 is relatively approachable for riders moving up from smaller-capacity motorcycles. Its claimed top speed of around 190 kmph, however, will depend in reality on riding conditions, rider weight and many other factors.
Features And Equipment
The equipment list is also fairly unchanged. The Ninja 500 still has a high-contrast LCD instrument console, with smartphone connection on the higher spec version. The motorcycle also has some old-school equipment that may look dated when compared to the current ones.
One such feature is halogen bulbs for the turn indicators. Several motorcycles in the same broad price category have moved towards LED lighting, giving rivals an advantage in terms of modern equipment and visual appeal.
But the Ninja 500 still has the basics of a middleweight sportsbike: a twin-cylinder engine, full fairing, manageable weight, ABS and a sporty riding experience that can work for both commuting and longer rides.
Competition Remains Strong
The Ninja 500 enters a competitive market where buyers have many choices in the form of alternatives. The Aprilia RS 457 in particular is still a key competitor and has a good reputation for its performance, modern equipment and aggressive styling. Pricing also has to be a big part of the equation in this market and the Kawasaki's unchanged price is especially important to prospective buyers.
The Ninja 500’s strengths are its smooth twin-cylinder motor, established Kawasaki brand appeal and versatile character. It can be an everyday motorcycle yet still have enough power for weekend highway rides. Kawasaki needs to add more equipment or modify motorcycle technology to be able to compete with the current state-of-the-art bike in the future but no major update is expected for 2027.
