So far India has received a good fitness update ahead of the fourth T20I against New Zealand now that wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan has been seen in the nets on Thursday, October 29. His return to practice is a hopeful source of hope for the team to make a comeback in the upcoming match as an injury had forced him to miss the second and third games of the series.
The fourth T20I will take place at Eden Park in Auckland on Friday, October 30. Kishan’s participation will depend on his fitness and the team management’s final decision.
Ishan Kishan Resumes Batting Practice
Kishan was also seen batting in the nets as India went into the fourth T20I. He was confident and playing attacking shots, it was reported, a good sign after his recent injury setback.
The wicketkeeper-batter suffered a low-grade right adductor strain during the opening T20I against New Zealand. He was ruled out of the second match and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is monitoring his recovery.
He missed the third T20I too. Kumar Kushagra was brought in as cover, and young batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi got an opportunity in the playing XI during Kishan’s absence.
His return to the nets is therefore an encouraging development for India, but that doesn’t mean he is match-fit in any way.
Why Kishan’s Return Could Boost India
Kishan gives India a more attacking batting option and flexibility as a wicketkeeper. His aggressive approach can carry on the momentum of the team in the powerplay and the middle order, depending on the role he is given.
His presence could also give the team management more options when finalising the batting combination for the remaining matches.
India has already taken an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match T20I series, according to reports ahead of the fourth match. Once the series is secured, the management might look to determine the fitness and make a decision on who should be part of the playing XI.
But at the same time, the team will have to balance experimenting with maintaining its winning momentum.
The Selection Question: Who Could Make Way?
If Kishan is declared fit and selected, the team management may have to rethink its batting combination. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is among the players whose position could come under discussion after his opportunity in the previous match.
The young batter played with an aggressive innings in the third T20I, so the selection process was more difficult. The management will need to take into account recent performances, team balance, and Kishan’s fitness prior to the final selection.
No official confirmation of Kishan’s inclusion in the fourth T20I was available at the time of reporting.
India Looks to Continue Winning Run.
India will meet New Zealand on October 30 in Auckland to extend their winning run and make further assessments ahead of the final match of the series.
Kishan’s return to practice is a welcome development, especially as the team is preparing for going overseas for the upcoming internationals. If he passes the fitness test (and if well enough), his comeback would assist India in terms of the depth in the Indian team’s batting lineup.
At the moment, fans will be waiting for the final team announcement to see if the wicketkeeper-batter is ready to return to international action.
