Honda has launched the ADV160 in India which is the Japanese company's entry in the growing adventure-scooter segment. Hardly beaten by Honda's bigger X-ADV, the new maxi-scooter is urban friendly and has adventure-oriented design and modern technology.
The Honda ADV160 also has to be one of the first scooters that are available in India with an E85 engine. Honda already announced that the scooter will be produced locally and that is a good thing, as it will keep the price competitive. And Honda is going to export the India-made ADV160 abroad.
The scooter will be sold on both Honda’s RedWing and premium BigWing dealership networks to various segments. Although the company has revealed the key specifications and features, the launch date is to be announced separately.
Honda ADV160: Adventure-Inspired Design
The ADV160 features a unique adventure-scooter design that gives it a rugged look. Its design is based on the bigger X-ADV and features a tall adjustable windscreen, twin LED headlamps and block pattern tyres.
Honda describes the scooter as an interpretation of its 'City Adventure' concept which combines the convenience of a scooter with styling and capability inspired by adventure motorcycles.
The scooter has a TFT instrument cluster with Honda RoadSync smartphone support. Other features include USB charging and Honda Selectable Torque Control (or traction control) and single-channel ABS. The ADV160 has 27 litres of underseat storage and it’s easily practical for everyday commuting.
157cc E85-Compatible Engine
The Honda ADV160 is a 157cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled petrol engine. The motor is 16.3hp and 14.9Nm of torque and is paired with CVT automatic transmission.
The biggest highlight is the engine’s E85 compatibility. So the scooter can run on up to 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent petrol. This technology could help India in expanding its use of alternative fuels and more ethanol blending.
The ADV160 uses a telescopic front fork and twin rear shock absorbers. It rides on a 14-inch front wheel and a 13-inch rear wheel. The scooter weighs over 133kg, has a 780mm seat height and has 165mm of ground clearance. The fuel capacity is 8.1 litres.

Honda has not yet announced the official launch date or price of the ADV160 in India. In the long run, the local production will help the company to keep costs down and keep costs low, in its line of business.
