The partnership will create an environment of sustainable and efficient battery recycling so that end of life lithium-ion batteries are safely processed and useful materials are recycled to new applications.

As the use of electric vehicles (EV) has been increasing in India, it has become a huge challenge to manage used batteries.

Lithium-ion batteries have valuable metals in them lithium, cobalt, nickel, and manganese so they can be recovered and reused instead of discarded.

Recycling these batteries reduces pollution and hence the dependency on imported essential minerals from other countries as well.

Ather Energy will return its end-of-life EV batteries to LICO Materials for responsible recycling.

Through advanced recycling technologies, LICO will extract and recover high-value materials that can be reintroduced into the battery manufacturing supply chain.

This is in keeping with the circular economy model- where resources are constantly recycled rather than discarded.

The collaboration occurs at a time when India is investing in electric mobility through the introduction of government programs and policies to reduce carbon emissions.

As electric two-wheelers, cars, and commercial vehicles become popular in India, industry experts believe that battery recycling for the long term will improve.

LICO Materials offers battery recycling processes which are eco-friendly with a focus on materials recovery so that valuable mineral recovery is maximized in the process with minimal waste.

The company will be able to strengthen India’s battery supply chain through a well-established EV manufacturer like Ather Energy to reduce the environmental impact of electric mobility.

Ather Energy’s partnership is a testament to the sustainability of the company; that has a positive effect on the environment and makes it possible for the whole company to be a part of an environmentally friendly EV ecosystem and responsible battery recycling and disposal is at the core of that.

Reusing batteries after they are done to reduce landfill waste and make manufacturing more pollution-free is also a win.

Battery recycling will be critical for EVs to become more sustainable and affordable to use for EVs in the future, said experts.

Recovering valuable metals means that fresh mining is not necessary, natural resources are conserved, and greenhouse gas emissions associated with raw material extraction are reduced.

The cooperation between LICO Materials and Ather Energy is also a continuation of India's strategic vision of self-reliance in minerals and clean transportation.

Partnerships like this are going to be critical as the EV market expands and we are going to need to build a sustainable battery value chain.

With growing awareness about responsible battery disposal and recycling, this initiative marks another significant milestone in India's journey toward a greener, cleaner, and more circular electric mobility ecosystem.
