Maruti Suzuki’s Japan Export Drive: Fronx, Jimny, e Vitara Cross 1 Lakh Units

Maruti Suzuki has achieved a major milestone in its international business; the Fronx, Jimny and e Vitara exports to Japan have crossed the 1 lakh-unit mark. The achievement tells us that India is becoming a more important market for Maruti Suzuki in manufacturing and export, and Japan is now one of the global company’s most important overseas markets.

The Fronx was the first of the three models to enter the Japanese market, with exports beginning in August 2024. The crossover was followed by the five-door Jimny, which is sold in Japan under the name Jimny Nomade. Maruti Suzuki's first electric vehicle, the e Vitara, has also been exported to Japan as part of the company's international EV strategy.

Fronx Leads Maruti Suzuki’s Japan Export Push.

Among the three models, the Fronx has emerged as a major contributor to Maruti Suzuki’s overseas business. The crossover is exported from India to almost 90 countries, underlining the company's strategy of using its Indian manufacturing facilities as an important global production base.

Fronx crossed 2 lakh cumulative exports from India in August 2026 in 38 months, making it the fastest India-made SUV to achieve 2 lakh cumulative exports, the company said. The model exported 90,186 units in FY2025-26.

The Fronx has performed well in international markets and has strengthened its position within Maruti Suzuki’s global product portfolio. The Japanese market has been particularly important, and helped to reach the overall export milestone of the three models.

Jimny Nomade Adds To Japan Portfolio

The five-door Jimny is also available in Japan, where it is marketed as Jimny Nomade. The lifestyle-oriented off-road SUV is exported from India to more than 100 markets worldwide.

Maruti Suzuki’s cumulative Jimny exports from India reached 1 lakh units in October 2025. The model has thus become a major addition to the company’s international portfolio, particularly in the markets where compact off-road vehicles have a solid customer base.

The Japanese version benefits from the five-door configuration, which makes it an additional benefit as opposed to the three-door version of the Jimny nameplate in many markets for the model.

e Vitara Takes India-Made EVs Global

The e Vitara is a different part of Maruti Suzuki’s international strategy. It is the company’s first electric vehicle and is made in the Hansalpur plant in Gujarat for domestic and international markets.

By the end of FY2025-26, exports of the e Vitara had crossed 25,000 units in 44 countries. Its entry into Japan is an important market for the vehicle as it will help Maruti Suzuki in its journey into electric mobility.

The export of the e Vitara from India also shows how Indian production facilities are increasingly supporting the delivery of newer technology-oriented vehicles to global markets.

Japan Becomes Key Overseas Market

The 1 lakh-unit milestone comes in the context of strong overall export growth for Maruti Suzuki. Japan was the second-largest overseas market during FY2025-26 and retained that position between April and August of FY2026-27.

The company’s overall performance for exports is also at record levels. Maruti Suzuki shipped more than 4.47 lakh vehicles from India during FY2025-26, the highest annual export volume. It was up more than 34% compared to the previous financial year.

The company has remained a large percentage of India’s passenger vehicle exports as well. Maruti Suzuki accounted for more than 55% of passenger vehicle exports in the first quarter of FY2026-27.

India’s Increasing Role In Maruti Suzuki’s Global Strategy

The growing export volumes highlight the fact that India is Maruti Suzuki’s manufacturing hub. Vehicles produced in the country are increasingly being shipped to markets across Asia, Europe, Africa, Latin America and other regions.

The success of the Fronx, Jimny and e Vitara in Japan is an example of how Indian-produced vehicles are being marketed in international markets. The three models are segment-specific but their combined performance has helped Maruti Suzuki to penetrate Japan.

With exports continuing to grow and new models such as the e Vitara entering the company's international product range, India is even more crucial to Maruti Suzuki’s global operations. This latest 1 lakh-unit Japan accomplishment is also another great step for the expanding export story of the automaker.
