October 2026 Automatic Gearboxes Car Launches: New Automatic Cars From Skoda, Honda and Audi Revealed

October 2026 is also the key month for the Indian automobile market and several new cars, facelifts and updated models will be launched in the festive season.

The most popular models will be Skoda, Honda and Audi and automatic transmission options will also be part of the list. From torque-converter automatics to dual-clutch gearboxes, this will be the choice for the Indian customers to choose.

One of the most important automatic-equipped launches will be Skoda Slavia facelift which will launch in India on October 6, 2026. The new sedan will continue with the TSI turbo-petrol engines 1.0 and 1.5, but the smaller engine will undergo an extensive upgrade in transmission. Skoda will introduce an 8-speed torque-converter automatic gearbox with the 1.0-litre TSI which will replace the earlier automatic configuration. The 1.5-litre TSI will continue with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Also, the Slavia facelift will see many new design and equipment changes. It will have new lighting elements, bumpers and alloy wheels and the cabin will gain a digital driver's display, an updated infotainment and a 360-degree camera. It is being positioned as a refresh in the midsize sedan category where it will still be battling Hyundai Verna, Honda City and Volkswagen Virtus.

Honda Elevate facelift is expected to arrive in October. The mid-size SUV will be launched on October 6 and new exterior and equipment will be added to the list. The Elevate will continue with its 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with CVT transmission option. The facelift is expected to bring new design and convenience features (and the equipment details are based on some industry reports and may vary in the final India-spec model).

For buyers looking to buy an automatic SUV, the Elevate's continued CVT setup will be of interest to them since CVTs are designed to deliver smooth power delivery to the vehicle without stepped gear changes. Automatic transmissions such as CVTs are particularly well suited to city driving where, in addition to acceleration, braking and stop-and-go traffic, when you can’t drive with a manual gearbox in a city, it’s also not as good to have a normal manual gearbox.

At the premium end of the market we will also see an important automatic-equipped arrival with the third-generation Audi Q3. Audi has started local assembly of the new-generation compact luxury SUV ahead of its scheduled October 16 launch in India. The India-bound Q3 will be powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and quattro all-wheel drive.

Hyundai Bayon is another model expected to arrive around October. Hyundai is planning to launch the SUV around October and industry reports suggest that Hyundai is on track to launch it in India around the festive season, but it is not clear when this will happen in India as models such as the new Audi Q3 and Skoda Slavia facelift are already available and when the date for launch is also unknown. The Bayon will be in between Venue and Creta in Hyundai's SUV range.

For car buyers, the variety of automatic transmissions coming with such cars is worth mentioning. A torque-converter automatic uses a fluid coupling and is generally used for smooth take-offs and gear changes. A dual-clutch transmission, for instance, uses two clutches to pre-select gears and can provide quick gear shifts. A CVT, by contrast, uses a continuously variable ratio rather than fixed conventional gear steps and is generally known for smooth operation.

The October launches also come during and ahead of India’s key festive shopping season when manufacturers typically introduce new products and updates to attract buyers. Skoda has already started production of the updated Slavia, while Audi has begun assembling the new Q3 in India ahead of its launch.

For prospective buyers, the choice between a CVT, torque converter and dual-clutch automatic will depend on driving conditions, performance expectations, maintenance and budget. This is why in October 2026 the launch calendar will be very diverse for automatic cars in sedan, SUV and luxury cars.

With the Skoda Slavia facelift, Honda Elevate facelift and Audi Q3 imminent in October, various automatic-equipped vehicles are expected to make their way to Indian showrooms. Buyers should check the final variant-wise transmission availability, prices, features and delivery dates when the manufacturers officially announce them.
