Nissan has come up with a new compact electric car that would be very popular in the affordable EV sector. Called Nissan Pixo, the new electric city car is mainly designed for European urban markets and has an expected range of 259 km on a single charge. European customers will be able to get the vehicle from early 2027 onwards.
The Pixo is compact in size, and its electric powertrain puts it in the same space as small city EVs like the Tata Tiago EV. However, Nissan has so far not said if it will launch the Pixo in India at all. The company has also not announced its final price, so any claim that it will be cheaper than the Tiago EV should be taken as an expectation instead of a given.
Nissan Pixo EV gets 259 km claimed range
The Nissan Pixo has one of the best batteries and range. The electric hatchback is equipped with a 27.5 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack and has 259 km WLTP range.
The car has a 60 kW electric motor, which is around 82 hp. Nissan has designed the Pixo as a compact urban EV with its small footprint for city roads, crowded streets, and tight parking spaces.
The use of the LFP battery is even more interesting because Nissan says the Pixo is its first European model to use this battery chemistry. LFP batteries are commonly used in EVs because they are durable and have properties that can make them useful for frequent charging.
Just 28 minutes to fast charging
Despite its small size, the Nissan Pixo has good charging technology. It is capable of charging at 50 kW DC fast charging, and Nissan claims that the battery can be charged from 15% to 80% in about 28 mins.
The EV also provides an 11 kW AC charger, and owners can charge at home or at compatible charging sites. In addition, the car has bidirectional charging.
The Pixo could be suitable for the everyday commute for urban users who typically drive shorter distances with a relatively small battery and fast charging.
Compact Size, Practical Interior
The Nissan Pixo is 3,796 mm long and 1,790 mm wide. The small size of the vehicle was intended to make it easier to manoeuvre in city traffic and get into parking spaces.
With its small exterior size, the Pixo is designed to fit four adults. The rear seats are independently sliding so passengers can choose the right balance between passenger space and luggage.
The car has around 356 litres of boot space with the rear seats in place. Folding the rear seats brings the luggage capacity to as much as 1,221 litres, according to Nissan's specifications reported by automotive publications.
Modern Technology inside the cabin
Nissan has brought in several modern technology features for the Pixo. The cabin has a 7-inch driver’s display and a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
The vehicle also has Google built-in, connected services and Gemini voice assistance. Nissan says Gemini will support 16 languages and dialects at launch. A Face ID system will recognize the driver and pull up personalised settings.
Other technology includes one-pedal driving, where the driver can accelerate and decelerate using the accelerator pedal, and several driver assistance systems.
Safety and Driver Assistance features
The Pixo has also been developed with an emphasis on urban driving assistance. Its equipment includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality, lane departure warning and hands-free parking.
Such features are intended to make the compact EV easier to operate in busy city environments where frequent braking, lane changes and parking manoeuvres are common.
In the future, could Nissan Pixo challenge Tata Tiago EV?
The Pixo's specifications make it an intriguing rival for affordable electric hatchbacks if Nissan finally brings it to India.
The 2026 Tata Tiago EV is priced at ₹6.99 lakh ex-showroom and is available with 19.2 kWh and 24 kWh battery options. The ARAI-certified range is 226 km and 285 km, respectively.
That means the Pixo’s 259 km WLTP claim falls between the two Tiago EV range figures, though WLTP and India’s testing procedures are different and the figures should not be treated as equivalent.
The Tiago EV also currently has an established price in India, and Nissan has not yet announced the Pixo's European price. Thus, its price comparison with the Tiago EV will be more transparent only after Nissan announces pricing and any India-specific future plans.
India Launch Still Unconfirmed
For Indian buyers, the biggest question is whether the Nissan Pixo will come to the country. Nissan hasn’t officially announced an India release date for the Pixo yet. European deliveries are expected to start in early 2027, and pricing and detailed market information are expected closer to launch.
If Nissan eventually looks at the Indian market, the Pixo’s small size, 259 km claimed WLTP range, LFP battery, and fast-charging capability will suit the country’s growing small-EV sector well. But we have to wait for its launch, specifications, and price to be announced for Indian buyers.
