The Indian SUV market is getting a new competitor with Nissan unveiling the new Tekton tomorrow.
Nicknamed “Baby Patrol” after the classic Nissan Patrol, the all-new SUV is expected to enhance Nissan's position in the highly competitive compact SUV market in India.
With consumers nowadays craving feature-rich, stylish and practical SUVs, the Nissan Tekton is arriving at just the right time.
It will compete directly with the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Honda Elevate, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun as well as the existing competitors.
The Tekton is just that bold in its exterior design. Early teasers show a muscular front fascia with Nissan’s signature V-Motion grille, LED daytime running lights, sculpted body panels, and big wheel arches.
Its upright stance and ruggedness have already earned it the nickname “Baby Patrol,” so similar to the bigger and globally popular Nissan Patrol SUV.
Inside the cabin, Tekton will have a modern premium experience with a large touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a fully digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control, wireless smartphone charging, connected car technology, multiple USB charging ports, and premium upholstery.
Higher versions may also have a panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, a 360-degree camera, and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) to make it a strong value proposition in its class.
Nissan will likely have turbo-petrol powertrains for city commuters and highway travelers with both manual and automatic transmission from the engine side.
While we will only know the details of the engine during the launch, the industry expects a refined and responsive driving experience.
And safety remains an area of major concern for Nissan. The Tekton would come with six airbags, electronic stability control, hill-start assist, traction control, ABS with EBD, tyre pressure monitoring, rear parking sensors, and a 360-degree camera in high-end versions.
Depending on the variant, ADAS features such as lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control may be available too.
Pricing will be the key to the Tekton's success. Industry experts think that the SUV will be priced competitively between ₹11 lakh and ₹18 lakh (ex-showroom) and will compete with the Hyundai Creta and other well-known compact SUVs.
Nissan may have the chance to introduce the Tekton to be one of the most interesting SUV launches of the year.
Tomorrow will see all specifications, features, variants, and pricing. And until then, the anticipation is building that this will be Nissan’s most important product launch for the Indian market in several years.
It is a rugged design, modern technology, and competitive positioning that Nissan Tekton has all of which will shake the compact SUV segment and give Hyundai Creta a serious new rival.
